Ambos Mundos Habano Review

Pete Johnson had these created to cater to the rising costs associated with enjoying your favorite past time. Finished with either a Habano (#1) or Sumatra (#2) wrapper, these cigars have a solid earthy backbone supported by notes of coffee and a peppery spice.

Country of Origin: Nicaragua
Strength: Medium to Full
Wrapper: Habano or Sumatra
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Solid toro with a medium brown moderately veiny wrapper. There is an oily sheen but a slightly sloppily applied cap. The habano wrapper has a white band, the sumatra a brown one. The band is plain simple and cheap looking. The cigar has a slight barnyard scent. The bunching is firm and uniform. The cap snipped cleanly and easily.

There isn’t much on the prelight draw. The initial puffs provide a toasty earthy taste. There is a touch of sweetness on the finish. There are some cedar notes as well. The draw and smoke volume are very good. There is minimal spice initially.

The aroma has a touch of sweetness to it and perhaps some nutmeg. The burn is straight and produces a solid white ash.

Toward the end of the first third, there is an interesting flavor I can’t put my finger on. Its subtle and comes and goes.

Into the second third, the cedar notes increase. The cigar has a pleasant taste with a short clean finish.

It did get a tad harsh in the last inch.

Overall this is a medium to full bodied medium strength cigar with strong cedar notes and a touch of smoothness. I would smoke these often.

Thanks for the review! It seems like these sticks really are hit or misses. I wonder if you would like the Sumatra better.

I think I recall Pete saying it's advised to age these longer. Do you think they would approve with more age time?

Re: Ambos Mundos Habano Review

I just picked up a one of the habano and one sumatra from a local B&M. I am really looking forward to trying these after they rest a bit.
Thanks for the review.

Re: Ambos Mundos Habano Review

I didn't see any Sumatras at my B&M. I tend to lean toward Habano \ Ecuadorian \ Corojo type wrappers. I'm also not big on aging. I buy'em and smoke'em. I feel as a general rule that if you age something too long it will mellow out to the point of being bland.
