Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
DATE: 2006/05/29
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper CIGAR: Partagas Black - Bravo SIZE: 4.50 X 54 ORIGIN: Nicaraguan WRAPPER: USA/Conn BINDER: Dominican FILLER: Nicaraguan SHAPE: Robusto AGE: In my humidor since 2006/05/22 VENDOR: Gifted by Mr. MaDuroo (Thanks again!) AMBIENCE: 5PM, all the yard-work completed. Sitting back relaxing for a bit. Cloudy & warm with a bit of humidity. BEVERAGE: Coffee (black) APPEARANCE: Beautiful oily black wrapper, somewhat veiny. PRE_LIGHT: Very chocolaty taste to the wrapper and to a dry-draw. DRAW: A bit tighter than I usually like, but a bit of work with one of my skewers and it was perfect. FIRST_THIRD: Wow! There was a powerful taste to the cap and smoke when first lit. Creamy cocoa with a bit of coffee. SECOND_THIRD: Very slow burning stick. Tastes mixed and combined in subtle variations as I smoked. Started to develop a bit of woody flavor also. FINAL_THIRD: Stayed great until the end. At the very nub it almost started to get a bit minty. I know it wasn't my lips burning, although they did singe a bit from the nub. BURN: Very even, very slow burn. ASH: Solid white rather flakey ash, very yellow center. SMOKE: Not a lot of smoke, but what there was of it was excellent. STRENGTH: Medium FLAVOUR: Creamy cocoa, coffee and wood FINISH: The aftertaste stayed with me a good half hour. If I had another available, I'd probably burn it right away. SMOKE_TIME: 55 minutes. As I said it was a slow burner. IMPRESSION: Don't know the age on this particular stick, but it just tasted like the sort of thing that would pop yer eyes out if you could hide a few of them for 5 years. RATING: 8 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks. COMMENTS: I really didn't want this one to end; VERY good. Definitely on my Box Purchase list. PICTURES: http://tinyurl.com/ezkr7 |

Re: Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
It came from a box that has been sitting about a year - I think they've improved a little, but not light years, since purchase. I like 'em a lot - nice review.

Hit the nail on the head, same as I would describe the Black Label. This is one of my favorite after dinner smokes.

Re: Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
I personally haven't had the best of luck with the Black series, but that was a very good, detailed review.

Re: Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
I just tried one of these little guys and was disappointed by the taste of the wrapper in my mouth. Tasted very bitter, and artificial and lingered in like a fine powder on my tongue.
Really detracted from the smoke itself. Am I crazy? Can someone explain my experience? thanks! |

Re: Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
I to agree these are great smokes and very well priced. I have never smoked this size. I have only had the Piramide and Magnifico. One of the most powerful flavor profiles I ever got from them was black pepper and that is why I love them.

Re: Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
I smoked one of these today and was going to write a review, but ya beat me to it! I really enjoyed the Partagas Black Bravo as well, it definitely hit on all 8 cylinders with a spicy, woody flavor you could almost chew on. The cigar had a great appearance with a satin oily sheen. I had some uneven burn issues, but those were readily dispatched by a quick touch up. In addition, I was herfing outside in the wind which may have contributed to the issues.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...ART_BLACKB.jpg Overall, I would give the stick a *** of 4 rating, I will definitely pick up a few more and let them age a while. Not quite a "box purchase and stash away" smoke yet, but who knows what the future holds? |

Re: Review - Partagas Black - Bravo
I've got a box of the Black Clasicos. A great stick all around.....construction, appearance and taste. I suspect they'll improve with sleep as it's a potent dark smoke.
