Holiday Smokes

I'm about to take that headfirst leap down the slope, credit card in hand. Before I do, it seemed to be a good time to try some of the NCs I have just never gotten around to smoking.

We took a loooong Memorial Day weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks. They have a really good local B&M that always seems to have cigars that I can't find around St Louis or have just never tried. Walked out with 6 new ones to try.

I'm not a great reviewer. And I don't intend to bore you with all the nitty gritty details of these smokes. Just wanted to share some general impressions.

Bolivar Robusto - I'm a big fan of their Cofradia and I was curious about their new blend in their "regular" line. This was probably the least memorable cigar of the week. Decent but nothing special.

Cusano Corojo - I've smoked quite a few Cusano 18s and I'd heard a lot about their Corojo. Nice corojo flavor, construction and burn. But again, sadly, nothing to make me want to buy a box.

LFD Double Ligero Chisel - Really looked forward to this one and it didn't disappoint. The chisel shape made it a unique smoking experience that I really seemed to like. The flavor was full and smooth to the nub. This could be the best constructed cigar I've ever smoked ... it sprang to life with ease after a couple of periods of inactivity that would have caused me to relight many other sticks. This one is on my box buy list for sure.

RyJ Reserve Maduro Belicoso - I've read all the praises about this top-drawer maduro. It was good ... nice flavor construction and burn. But, I'm enjoying an Ashton Aged Maduro right now with my coffee that I like a lot better. Will probably give the RyJ a second chance sometime.

Torano Virtuoso Encore - Probably the most full flavored Torano I've smoked. I liked it. Nice tobacco flavor with an undercurrent flavor that I just can't identify. Guess I will just have to keep smoking these until I figure it out. Went real well with a cup of coffee. I've been looking for a new coffee cigar ... maybe this could be it.

TTT Trinidad Corona - Wow. This was without a doubt the most full flavored, full-bodied and most complex cigar of the batch. Rough looking Ecuador Sumatran wrapper. Started out with that delicious earthy and leather flavor that I love. About halfway, it turned into a little spice bomb. I'm sure this won't be the last one of these that I'll ever smoke.

I'm sorry to be so windy but it was an interesting cigar holiday.

Qwerty:
Was it like a kind of sweet spiceiness? Of the Toranos and Gurkha/K.Hansotias I have smoked there is always that tell tale sweet spice taste either as an undertone or just in the background.

I was kind of disapointed by the RyJ Reserve Maduros I have had. Good but not great as I had been led to believe. A good cigar but there are certainly better maduros out there.

Nice job with the reviews. I am a really big fan of the Torano Virtuoso line. I have a couple LFD Double Ligero's waiting in the Humidor for me, I have heard some people complain about construction problems but it appears your experience was good.

Re: Holiday Smokes

I am a big fan of Torano cigars but I smoked a Virtuoso a few day ago and did not like it. When I picked it up I did not realize I bought it until I got home. It was the only one I had, I may need to give it another try. Mine was very harsh with tobacco flavor and charred wood, no sweetness at all.
