CAO Cameroon Robusto Review

First off, let me just say that I love the CAO Brazilia Line of cigars, with the GOL being my favorite!

This was the first time that I tried any of the CAO Cameroon Cigars. The Robusto is a box pressed cigar and is 5" x 50 in size and lasted about 45 minutes for me. I must say, that I am not a big fan of the box pressed shape. The construction was perfect, with a nice medium, slightly reddish, brown wrapper and a perfectly applied cap. This cigar fired up perfectly and burned perfectly all the way down. The flavor profile, is dominated, from beginning to end by a semi-sweet spiciness that is very pleasent and tasty. In the first third the semi-sweet spiciness is comanding and vibrant, with hints of wood and nuts. In the middle, the semi-sweet spiciness mellows down a few notches and more of the woody flavor comes forward with some nutty flavors in the back ground. In the final third, the semi-sweet spiciness comes back to the front, along with strong hints of earthiness which become a tad harsh at times. This stick also gets a bit hot in the final third. The finish/aftertaste last a long while, however, it become a tad bitter. This is a nice smoke, not very strong in either the flavor or strength profile. It's medium in flavor and mild to medium in strength. All in all and enjoyable smoke but not one that I would buy again.

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

Thansk for the review J. This is one of my favorite smokes. I liked the flavor enough that I did buy more. I think I have like 10 and was waiting and watching to see how they mellow over a little time. I liked them so much I keep giving them away to people I'm trying to corrupt (since it is a medium of the road flavor and strength). Doh..... kind of defeats the purpose of buying to age though doesn't it .

Stogie_Kanobie_One,

A wise man once said "Smoke What You Like & Enjoy What You Smoke"!

That's what's so neat about smoking cigars and, in my case, pipes. Taste is very subjective, so not everyone likes or dislikes, the same cigars or tobaccos, to the same degree!

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

Thank you very much for that review. Like you, I love the Brazilia line. I have not had a CAO Cameroon yet, but I have been eyeing them at my B&M recently. I think I will have to pick one up next time. I haven't really had a bad cigar from CAO yet, except the crillio which I did not like one bit. I enjoy the box press shape...I guess I have had too many Sancho Panza Double Maduros.

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

I like this line. I've found Camaroon wrapped cigars to be somewhat delicate but this one is constructed really well. I guess that's the benefit of the X2.

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

Was a bit disappointed with this cigar for the price. Found it bland in comparison to the Brazilia line.

Hmmm... CAO and Cameroon wrapper sound like a winner to me. Not sure if I have had this one or not.

FYI, the prices at longashes2u.com on CAOs are ridiculously low

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

Had one the other night at the local B&M and did not care for it at all. Started off smooth and spicy and then just harsh. Put it down at the 1/2 point and left. Maybe I should have hung in there to see if it backed off a bit.

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

I,ve had 3 or 4 of them. I found them also well made. The taste smooth and even. It,s definatly not a full bodied gar, that,s why I liked it.
Palate to palate, I liked the camaroon better than the CAO Gold, which are also well made and a good smoker.

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

I was looking for an appropriate thread to post this in. This one looks good. JR is running a close out on the CAO Cameroon Rothschild

Quote:
CAO Cameroon Rothschild...

This 4.50 inch by 50 ring gauge cigar was a real good seller until CAO launched a 5 inch by 50 ring gauge size called the Robusto... then it dropped dead as customers switched to the slightly longer 5 inch size. Obviously we don't need both of these sizes in our inventory, so we are discontinuing the Rothschild at a breathtaking price: A regular $125.00 retail that we normally sell at $99.00 is now: SIXTY NINE DOLLARS!

Plus, as featured in our current catalog, get a 6-Cigar CAO Gourmet Sampler Collection absolutely FREE with each CAO Cameroon Rothschild purchase. That's a $45.00 value
I caught myself wishing I could justify the purchase, but I just finished paying my bills and.... you know the story.

I am sure supplies won't last so… Also don't forget about JRs shipping prices, per item, but still a deal.

Thanks for the review - I believe this is the only CAO I haven't tried yet - had the anniversary maduro which is very strong in comparison so this one has now perked my curiosity.

Re: CAO Cameroon Robusto

I was thinking of writing a review on this today, but since you just put this up, I'll simply comment here:

I smoked one of these at the Flying Saucer in Nashville two days ago. I'm a big Cammie fan, and this was my first of these. It was mild/medium, smooth and sweet. I enjoyed it. It matched well with the Belhaven Ale I was drinking.

It was overpriced buying it from the Saucer, but I forgot my Caddy so I was willing to suck it up to smoke inside the billiard room with a quality ale. I'd probably buy another one when in dire need of a Cameroon.
