Padron Maduro 2000 Review

Just had my first ever Padron Cigar, it was a maduro 2000 so its 5/50. Before I lit it up it felt nice and firm, no apparent soft spots and it had a nice aroma to it. First few puffs were sheer heaven, nice and sweet and smooth and boy did it kick out a lot of smoke, they most I have ever had from a cigar before. Flavour was a mild coffee/chocolate mix which after about an inch started to get nice hints of liquorice in it. Burn was dead level to begin with but as the ash grew over an inch it started to go off to one side, after knocking off the ash I found a rather large hole in the filler, however after a touch up and a purge the burn was good again. After another inch the flavours got a little stronger but I did find another hole in the filler. The last two inches it began to smoke a little hot and a few acrid flavours came through the strong liquorice taste and caught the back of my throat, pretty soon I decided it was time to finish it.
All in all I was a little disappointed after hearing some other reviews about this cigar. It wasn’t all bad though, I really enjoyed the first three inches, nice thick rich creamy smoke and chocolaty/nutty flavours with tasty liquorice in there as well. I paired this cigar with a bottle of cobra beer with has a nice light citrus flavour but also the feel of a much darker beer so it went well with this flavourful cigar. I also think a darker beer would suit this cigar as well as maybe some sweet dark rum or a caramel flavoured port.

Re: Padron Maduro 2000

Thanks for the review man! I too enjoy the Padron 2000 Maduro, and I´ve got two or three lying around in the humi for the future.

But boy...I got to tell ya, that if you enjoyed this smoke from Padron, then you have to try the "1964 Anniversity"-selection. It kicks ass!

I've been looking to try these. I think I'll pull the trigger now.

Re: Padron Maduro 2000

This year's 2000 Maduros are different than previous years. They are more rounded and lighter in color. The construction used to be better IMO.

I have a couple of old 2000s in my humi and they are box pressed and look very similar to the 1964 Exclusivo.

Re: Padron Maduro 2000

I would agree that the 2000s are lighter that I have seen previously. I have found the construction to still be good. They are a very nice stick. The flavors are a bit one dimensional, but it doesn't bother me. They are consistent, and I know that I can expect a good time with this stick.
