Saint Luis Rey Rothchild EMS Review

Origin: Honduras
Length: 5.00
Ring: 54
Strength: Full
Wrapper Color: Medium Brown (E)
Wrapper Type: Nicaragua
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: HON/NIC/PERU
Shape: Parejo

Well despite the description from a cigar website, this beautiful, dark brown cigar was as mild as any I've had. I was saving this one for my big commute to work. A well made stogie, very firm to the touch with a pleasant unlit aroma. To sumarize:

Construction: 8

Burn: 8.5

Taste: 7 (too mild for me)

Value: 7 (about $4.00)

Appearance: 8.5

Avg. 7.8

I would only recommend this cigar to someone who seeks a mild smoke that is very consistent. No surprises.

Re: Saint Luis Rey Rothchild EMS

The SLR are about the most consistently good cigars that I have tested. I have never had a bad one. I have to wonder at your assessement of "mild". I have found all of these that I have tested to be full flavored. What they are not is harsh. Well cured tobacco with a smooth smoke that will not rip your nose hairs out. To many of the newer "bold" and "full flavored" smokes tend to remind me of the recent hot sauce fad. It is no longer about tasting anything, it is all about causing thermo-nuclear burns to your toungue. Happily, the SLR line gives you a cigar that you can actually taste and enjoy.

Re: Saint Luis Rey Rothchild EMS

I'm smoking a SLR Toro as I wright this post. To me this isn't a mild smoke, it's more of a medium to strong that has a very smooth taste with lots of body and no harshness. Like they say, everyone has different size opinions.

I like your description there.

I too like the SLR Rothchild and find the price for the smoke is pretty darn good.

That one you sent me was excellent. I can't remember off the top of my head if it was a Rothschilde or a Toro. I will have to check my notes when I get home. I do remember that the score I gave it was a high A!

Re: Saint Luis Rey Rothchild EMS

The SLR Rothchilde Maduro is my everyday (go-to) smoke. I have one just about every day, either at the B&M on my lunch hour or at home. I've tried many many many types and brands of cigars and I keep coming back to this one over and over again. I've actually tried to find a replacement and I can't find one that gives me more all-around pleasure. I've never had one draw or burn badly. It stays in tact throughout and I love the flavor and aroma. No, I wouldn't classify it as "mild", but it's not full either - it's somewhere in the middle to where in no way does it leave you wanting. You can't go wrong with this smoke and the last box of 25 that I bought cost me just over $50.00 (including shipping). You really can't beat it.

Re: Saint Luis Rey Rothchild EMS

I haven't tried the SLR Maduros. Might be worth a try...
