Review - Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon Robusto

DATE: 2006/06/10
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: Carlos Torano 1916 Cameroon
SIZE: 5.50 X 52
ORIGIN: Nicaraguan
WRAPPER: Cameroon
BINDER: Nicaraguan
FILLER: Nic, Hon
SHAPE: Robusto
AGE: In my humidor since 2006/05/20
VENDOR: Traded with DRob. (Thanks again!)
PRICE: Unknown, but current retail is $3.12 each.
AMBIENCE: 6:30PM Saturday. Very warm and very humid with just
a slight touch of breeze.
BEVERAGE: None
APPEARANCE: Dark, smooth, semi-oily wrapper, encased in cedar.
A very well built cigar.
PRE_LIGHT: Had an almost floral smell and a very sweet taste.
DRAW: Perfect resistance.
FIRST_THIRD: Very mellow flavor; sweet and creamy. The sweetness
was reminiscent of raw sugar cane.
SECOND_THIRD: Taste profile stayed consistent, but the flavors varied
and a hint of woodiness became prevalent.
FINAL_THIRD: Continued all the way down to the nub.
BURN: Perfect burn from start to end.
ASH: Very white solid ash with a yellow center.
SMOKE: Pretty good volume of sweet tasting smoke.
STRENGTH: Medium.
FLAVOUR: Floral, sweet and creamy.
FINISH: Stayed with me for about half an hour.
SMOKE_TIME: 1 hour 15 minutes.
IMPRESSION: This was a *very* long smoke for a robusto. Although
most cameroon's seem to taste too "dry" for me, this was
a very enjoyable smoke.
RATING: 8 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.
COMMENTS: I'm not sure of the age, but if I were to buy a box
of these to put aside for a while, I might seriously
consider removing the cedar sleeve from the cigars
before storage. I think in the long run it might
actually detract from the floral taste.

Thanks for another of your very informative reviews. Had the 1916 in Churchill size recently and thought it was a very nice smoke. Good mellow flavor with good draw lots of smoke. Have a few more resting.

Tim, try the Signature series next. I think you may find it even more to your liking.

I'll let you know after I smoke the Signature this afternoon. Since I'm a maduro-head the comparison between the two should be interesting. I must say though that this was one of the best tasting Cameroon wrap cigars I can recall...

Nice review Timothy. I think the 1916's are great cigars, just really tasty. As another suggested, try the Signature line and also the Virtuoso.
