Review - La Aroma de Cuba - Corona Minor

DATE: 2006/06/15
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: La Aroma de Cuba
SIZE: 4.50 X 44
ORIGIN: Honduran
WRAPPER: Honduran
BINDER: Honduran
FILLER: Hon, Nic
SHAPE: Corona Minor
AGE: In my humidor since 2006/06/06
VENDOR: Local B&M. (Yeah, it's about time I reviewed something
besides gifter/traded sticks... <G>)
PRICE: Current retail about $3.40 each.
AMBIENCE: 8AM, watering the dried out yard. Hot, humid and still.
BEVERAGE: None.
APPEARANCE: Smooth oily Corojo-looking wrapper (Claims to be "Cuban
seed wrapper" whatever that could mean.) A rather heavy cigar.
PRE_LIGHT: Almost tasteless and odorless.
DRAW: A bit tighter than I usually like, but acceptable.
FIRST_THIRD: Got some initial hits of woody grassiness. Tasted pretty young
to me. (Is this a sign that my tastes are maturing? I seem to
be able to spot aging issues in a lot more cigars than I used to)
The flavors blended together and stayed consistent.
SECOND_THIRD: The grassy taste started to take on tones of sweet hay, which
is a good thing. Got the occasional vague hint of amonia.
FINAL_THIRD: Sweetness dissapated and the flavor turned slightly raw. Now I
am positive that this should have sat for another six months
or so before smoking.
BURN: Very good even burn.
ASH: Mottled dark grey fluffy ash.
SMOKE: Rather tasty woody smoke, but not a lot of volume.
STRENGTH: Medium.
FLAVOUR: Woody, sweet grassy flavor.
FINISH: Didn't stay with me at all.
SMOKE_TIME: 45 minutes.
IMPRESSION: I am coming to the conclusion that a *lot* of the cigars I smoke
need to rest a while longer than I've let them so far.
RATING: 6 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.
COMMENTS: The taste was good and definitely had potential, but not
very impressive right out of the box.

Nice review as always. I'm pretty fond of this little guy and would say that for twice the price there are lotsa better small coronas; for the price, I like the whole line right out of the box. My local stocks the lAdC double corona which I smoke peroidically - always enjoy. I'll usually pick up a couple of the little guys when I see them. Neat cigar - love the chickkie on the band.

Good review Texan. This is one of my favorite inexpensive NC right now. For me, this is a very complex little cigar with an earthly taste and hint of wood spices, coffee and sweet vanilla. Really do enjoy this little guy. I find them to smoke fine after sitting in the humidor for a few weeks.

I agree with y'all, LAdC is one of the best inexpensive smokes around...my go-to cheaper NC.
