RP Vintage 1990 seconds Review
Very good! I scored a bundle of 15 several days ago from the devil site (CBID) and they arrived yesterday. I fired one up after inspecting a few for flaws. With the exception of some wrinkles, and the boxed shape seems to have been incomplete with one side square and the other side rounded, and a few thick veins on the wrappers, it seems these seconds are top shelf anyway.
This was my first RP Vintage stick, I have some RP Vintage 1990 Euros but they are a little bit different. But these 1990's are very good. I can easily detect the Ligero in these, and it lends a lot of body to the overall blend. It is smooth, a little creamy, earthy and chocolatey. I got the Robusto size which is 5.5 X 50. The wrapper is old and well fermented and the blends is old (well aged). The construction is solid; burns well and leaves a solid white ash, which dropped off after 3 inches. Upon lighting I could taste the ligero right away, and it was mixed with a earthy toasty taste. The aroma was pleasant, with toast, wood and chocolate flavors. All the while it was smooth, and it burned evenly and slowly. The last 3 inches introduced the ligero again, and this time with a vengeance The taste became very strong but was very tasty. The blend on this stick is outstanding; the ligero never took over completely. While smoking I decided it reminded me of the KHansotia Triple Ligero but, now that I think of it, I could probably say that of any well made ligero laced stick I have had. This is an outstanding cigar and well worth the time. Hehe, and I remind you...I'm talking about a second here So now I know why so many have been raving about this brand, and why they have been earning such high ratings over at CA and Smoke magazine. ![]()

>>While smoking I decided it reminded me of the KHansotia Triple Ligero but<<
Since I wrote this, I had another Triple Ligero and amend the statement above; it is not at all like the RP Vintage 1990, the only similarity is the ligero taste, and even that occurs in the last 4 inches of the Triple ligero (K.Hansotia). In fact the Vintage 1990 is fuller bodied than the triple ligero. Both are good smokes but, I like the RP 1990 better. ![]()

Re: RP Vintage 1990 seconds
Which blend is stronger, the 1990 or 1992?

Re: RP Vintage 1990 seconds
I smoked my first one last night that was gifted to me by Nick and I really liked it. Burn was almost perfect, and the taste was very good, not harsh at all, I ended up nubbing it.

Glad you ejoyed it! DonP... you really think the RPV90 is stronger? I've only ever had one X3 Triple Ligero.. and it knocked me on my A$$!! Of course, I didn't eat something before I smoked it, and I smoked it while walking (so I inhaled a good bit of smoke).. that could have made the difference... I agree with your preference though, I really like the RPV1990 and RPV1990 seconds... haven't had a 92 yet, even though I have 1 92 and 15 92 seconds sitting in the humi.. mebbe if it dries up tonight...

Re: RP Vintage 1990 seconds
I just scored two fivers of the torps from cbid. I couldn't resist smoking one OTT! Even then it was tasty. I can't wait until they recover. I put three in the bottom of my freshly-lined-with-spanish-cedar-coolerdor to age.

Yes, I do think the 1990 is fuller bodied than the X3. The X3 is milder for a longer period of time, and then gets the ole spice bomb thing going nearer the end. The flavors too are differnt than the 1990, a lot less leather. But, I do like the X3 though. I too haven't ever had the 1992 so, I cannot compare. I have heard the 1992 is milder than the 1990 due to the wrapper but, if it's in any way comparable to the 1990 then who cares I can't wait to score some of the 1992s. ![]()
