Thumbs down Review - Thompson's Corojo Cubano - Robusto

DATE: 2006/06/16
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: Thompson's Corojo Cubano
SIZE: 5.50 X 52
ORIGIN: Dominican
WRAPPER: Unknown
BINDER: Unknown
FILLER: Unknown
SHAPE: Robusto
AGE: Unknown. In my humidor since 2006/06/04.
VENDOR: Gifted by Vegas Smoker. (Thanks again!)
PRICE: Current retail is $1 each.
AMBIENCE: 2PM Friday afternoon; hot, humid with a nice breeze.
BEVERAGE: None.
APPEARANCE: Wrapper is flat out "red" and definitely looks dyed. Good
construction, just looks fake because of the color. Not
a color I'd ever associate with cigars.
PRE_LIGHT: No apparent taste or smell.
DRAW: Perfect resistance.
FIRST_THIRD: Hmm... Tastes like "cigar" to me without any detectable
flavors. Several people have said this was "good for a
Thompson" but I find it pretty bland, almost tasteless.
SECOND_THIRD: Blah... The red dye stuck to my fingers and mouth. Not
a good thing.
FINAL_THIRD: More blah... At least it didn't get any worse, and I did
actually finish it. My usual descriptions of different
flavors is lacking in this review. Tasted like a typical
machine-rolled drugstore cigar.
BURN: Very good even burn.
ASH: Light grey fluffy ash with yellow center.
SMOKE: Lots of white smoke, but tasteless.
STRENGTH: Rather on the mild side.
FLAVOUR: At least it tasted like a cigar... <G>
FINISH: None to speak of.
SMOKE_TIME: 40 minutes, and did not smoke it to the nub.
IMPRESSION: I think this was pretty fair for what Thompson's house
bundles have to offer, but not a very good cigar. For the
guys who don't smoke cigars, these might be okay, but I
can't recommend them.
RATING: 2 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.
COMMENTS: It looked like the "corojo" part of this cigar was just
a typical cheap-maduro wrapper with some good ol' Red
Dye #2 mixed in. Had none of that distinctive corojo flavor
and was just a ho-hummer.

Cool Re: Review - Thompson's Corojo Cubano - Robusto

A well written review, even though it was a very disappointing review. However, considering it was a Thompson's Cigar, I am not surprised!

Sounds like the Thompson's reviews aren't going too well so far.

Actually they're going quite well. My honest appraisal of each stick...

By the way, what exactly is up with the "vote for me" blurb in your sig file? Do you think it'll help?

I was going to vote for him, until he started in with all the negative campaigning!!! I can't respect that stuff... (can I run...)

Heh... I just saw in a different thread that another person is doing the "vote for me" in their sig_file, but with even more huge fonts...

And I have about a dozen more of these that I have to smoke for review. I certainly hope everybody appreciates the struggle this is. <G> I can only do one every few days, as so far the tastes have been awful.

Thanks for an honest review.. I was actually considering these because of the price point, but I think I will stay away!
