Review - The Griffins Petite Corona
DATE: 2006/06/19
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper CIGAR: The Griffins Petite Corona SIZE: 5.0 X 42 ORIGIN: Santiago, Dominican Republic WRAPPER: Conn-Maduro BINDER: Dominican FILLER: Dominican SHAPE: Petite Corona (No. 500) AGE: At least a year. In my humidor since 2006/04/23 VENDOR: Gifted by Pegleg. (Thanks again!) PRICE: Unknown. Current retail is US $4.20 each. AMBIENCE: 8AM Monday morning, rainy and cool. BEVERAGE: Coffee - black. APPEARANCE: Dry dark non-oily wrapper; stiff as a board. PRE_LIGHT: No appreciable taste or smell. DRAW: Perfect resistance. FIRST_THIRD: Pretty bland tasting smoke. Mild woody flavor which was only fair tasting. SECOND_THIRD: Most of the non-oily maduro's do seem to have a similarity, in that they seem to coat my tongue with their taste. Not a bad thing if the taste is good. In this case it was only average. FINAL_THIRD: Got slightly bitter in the last third. Developed just a hint of peppery flavor right at the end. BURN: Very good burn, as most corona sized cigars have. ASH: Dark grey flakey ash. SMOKE: Sparce white wood tasting smoke. STRENGTH: Mild to medium. FLAVOUR: Very one dimensional woody tasting flavor. FINISH: No real finish to speak of, dissapated as soon as I set it down. SMOKE_TIME: 45 minutes. IMPRESSION: I had some Principes this size a few months ago that tasted better than this, and they were $15 per bundle of 25... RATING: 5 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks. COMMENTS: This might have been a much better tasting cigar if they would have used a more oily, expensive wrapper. Would have helped give it a bit more taste. Then again, this might be either a "bad stick" or one of those strange cigars which taste better freshly rolled and get worse with age. In either case, I most likely will not put these on "The List". Re: Review - The Griffins Petite Corona
Thanks for the well written review about a not so great cigar. I have tried the Griffins Line several times, and each time I was disappointed by the very bland, falvorless profile. They seem to be mild beyond the definition of mild! I've been so disappoint by them, that I cannot bring myself to try their Fuerte Line, which some people say is pretty decent.
