Padron 1964 Natural Torpedo - WOW! Review

At one point Miami noticed that I mentioned in a thread that I wanted to pick up a PAM becuase I had never had one. Well, he PMs me for my addy, and I know he was up to trouble, but I didn't think too much of it. A few days later I get hit with 2 64's, and a 26. I smoked the first of the three last night...

Padron 1964 Anniversary Natural Torpedo.

The construction on this stick was superb. It was nice and firm, but not packed super tight. This hinted at the great draw of the smoke that I was about to experience. The color was very dark for a natural, the darkest I have ever seen. I even went back to my humi to make sure I didn't grab the maduro by accident. There were a couple of prominent veins, I made a note to keep my eye out to make sure they didn't damage the burn.

The prelight draw and smell was subtle. It had a richness to it, while at the same time, it was very smooth. The first few puffs of this cigar were great. The draw was absolutely perfect, a wonderful volume of smoke. The whole time I smoked this cigar I was impressed by the amount of flavor and richness, yet lack of any harshness. This was the first cigar I have smoked that was so rich in flavor, yet was not a power-house.

That burn was great, I did not have to perform any corrections the entire time. The first ash dropped naturally at about .75". From there on out, I continued to let the ash drop naturally, but it held on longer, for about 1.25"
I never even thought of purging this cigar becuase there was never any harshness or noticeable nicotene build up. I burned it right down to the end. It was there that a bit of spice came up, but not much. I was completely impressed with the burn and draw of this cigar. I never had to baby-it. It never came close to going out. I never had to give it a double pull to get a good amount of smoke from the draw. Wonderful!

All in all. This cigar is amazing. I am relatively new, but I have smoked some Opus, and some Cubans (PSD4, Party Shorts, Boli PC, Magnum)...this was the best cigar I have ever had. I would pay the premium to smoke one of these again. I am anxious to see how the 64 Torp M compares. Miami, thank you so much for gifting me the best cigar I have ever had.

Great review glad you liked it. Life is to short not to share. IHO Padron makes the best all around cigars from an everday smoke to a special day cigar.

The are also a graet family.

Some might disagree but I think both of you are right on target.I've had a 1926 40th Anniv. that was too tight to smoke, even at that I still think Padron is the best quality and value out here...Dave

Yea the thousand series are pretty great for the money.Maybe the natural wrapper would have a little less kick for you,or stash them for a bit till your pallet catches up.They are a little strong for newer smokers that is if you are a newer smoker.Anyway enjoy them I know I would...Dave

I have yet to try the 4000 M, but I am in love with the 2000 M and 3000 M. Great smokes. They are pretty one dimensional (in my experience), but the flavor is great so I don't mind it a bit. I will have to find myself a 4000 M and give it a shot.

Ya i'm pretty new and I'm sure I don't appreciate it like a seasoned connosieur, but I do find myself picking up flavors that I didn't notice before. As for being able to distinguish between cocoa, leather, pepper, etc... lol, I can't, but whatever it is, it is wonderful.

Thumbs up Re: Padron 1964 Natural Torpedo - WOW!

Very nice review!

You were gifted with two great cigars! I have smoked a few of the 64 Torps both natural and maduro, they are fabulous and always on my wish list! So far, I have not had the good fortune of smoking any of the 1926 40th Anni Series but I have hear many great things about them!

IMHO the 64 naturals are the best line of cigars Padron has to offer. They have a great coffee flavor. The other lines are good but I don't find them to be anything special, but still have to try the 40th Anni's.

I agree! I used to hoard the maduros, but I'll reach for a natural 9 times out of 10 now.

I have noticed that the dark color is pretty much the same across the whole Padron line. I myself prefer the naturals, as the maduros are a bit strong for me.

Good review! I have yet to try a 64 or 26. Looking forward to hear the review about the 26.
