Review - Thompsons Empressario - 0 - Robusto

DATE: 2006/06/21
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: Thompson's Empressario
SIZE: 5.0 X 50
ORIGIN: Dominican
WRAPPER: Connecticut
BINDER: N/A
FILLER: N/A
SHAPE: Robusto
AGE: Unknown. In my humidor since 2006/06/06
VENDOR: Gifted by RHarris. (Thanks again!)
PRICE: Current retail price is US $1.25 each.

AMBIENCE: 10:30AM Wednesday. Hot sunny and rather humid.

BEVERAGE: Ice water.

APPEARANCE: Light colored thick wrapper. Very light-weight cigar with a spongy feel to it.

PRE_LIGHT: No detectable tastes or odors.

DRAW: Much too loose of a draw for my taste.

FIRST_THIRD: Surprised by a pleasant creamy taste which was a little bit grassy. This went away after smoking about 3/4 inch, and was replaced by the sort of bland flavor I associate with machine-rolled sticks. It wasn't actively bad, but not really good either.

SECOND_THIRD: Smoke began to get a bit harsh, which was odd for such a mild stick. After a few more puffs this big gout of smoke came from it, accompanied by a terrible smell. It was a piece of red plastic! At this point the taste of the cigar was ruined by the burning plastic and I set it down.

FINAL_THIRD: Didn't get this far. <G>

BURN: Canoed a tiny bit, but acceptable until the plastic burn.

ASH: Light grey very flakey ash.

SMOKE: Medium volume of pretty bland smoke.

STRENGTH: Mild.

FLAVOUR: None (except burning plastic)

FINISH: None (except burning plastic). Had to go brush my teeth...

SMOKE_TIME: 20 minutes until the melt-down.

IMPRESSION: At first it seemed to try being a cigar, but the completely unacceptable carelessness of having a piece of plastic in a cigar obviously ruined it for me.

RATING: 0 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.

COMMENTS: If it would not have had the plastic in it, I'd have given it a two, as it was at least trying to be as good as a Cohiba Red Dot. <G>

True... But it wouldn't have messed it up as much as actually burning the plastic did...
