Ashton VSG robusto Review

I made a pot of my fovourite coffee, turned on some tunes and sat out on the back porch to enjoy what I thought was just an Ashton line I haven't had yet, little did I know I was about to smoke the most flavourful, unusual cigar I ever had. The appearance of the med/dark wrapper is flawless the construction of this cigar is perfect. The Ashton line, for me, never let's me down but the VGS blew me away. Pre-light draw reveled a truly unique taste, I've smoked for 23 years and I never have tasted a stick so unique. After toasting the foot the first puff left me completely amazed at the never experienced taste. My friend. knowing the fruitless quest I've been on to find this size, VSG asked me "well how is it" my response was "it don't taste like a cigar". It almost didn't taste like tobacco, then after a few puffs I tasted rich express, dark coco with an occasional appearance of an overtone of hickory. The taste remained the same throughout this cigar. While having this cigar my girl friend kissed me and with astonished look on her face said "damn that taste good" and she doesn’t smoke cigars. I described the Aston Heritage line as the best cigar I've ever had till I had the VSG line.

Those sticks just hit the spot - you're right, they're very different than most.

Re: Ashton VSG robusto

A great review of one of my favorite cigars.

Is it just me or can anyone else taste traces of horse manure and boot polish in the aroma of a VSG?

P.S. Welcome to Club Stogie, MusicMan!

Great review - you hit the highlights, for sure. Maybe you'll get a hold of one of those Enchantment "footballs" (per OpusXOX) some time - it's like the same, only more.

Nice review. I've been hearing a lot about these lately for some reason...more than usual- and I've had a bit of a tough time locating some. Must be VSG season. I'm anxious to try one.

Ashton VSG Robusto

I've had one in my humidor for a few months now and I finally decided to have it last night.

I have to say I absolutely loved this cigar. Hands down one of my favorite smokes now. It's not too overpowering and medium bodied, but it seems perfectly suited to this semi-dark cigar. It's just right.

FANTASTIC TASTE! I can't put my finger on it, so I'm just going to say it tastes like smoking trailmix, like fruit and nut potpourri with an occassional chocolately note. Not quiet like anything I have smoked to date.

The few negatives I had with my stick were: the cap area was peeling a bit after cutting which may have been caused by a decent sized vein running through the cigar. Also, I had to correct the burn once. I am surprised to see I had to comment on the construction of an Ashton, but I'm not worried, I'm sure the next stick will be much better.
