A.F. Hemingway Classic Maduro Review

Hey all, hope you had a good 4th.

I was at a B&M recently which I rarely frequent, as it is not nearby, and stumbled on a box of these beautiful stogies. Hadn't seen any in ages, so bought what was left.

Yesterday was warm and still in La-La Land, a perfect outdoor stogie smoking day. I went out onto the shady patio with an ice tea and a good book. My wonderful wife knew I was not to be disturbed for a while.

I lit the small nipple end of this perfectly crafted masterpiece and sat back to savor it. Initially the draw was a bit tight, the flavor pleasant but a bit dry and cedary. I couldn't help comparing it to the A.F. 858 maduro, my current go-to. I felt a bit disappointed as there was not the voluptuos smooth opulence of the 858, but I kept going and stayed alert. The first 1/3rd was nice but just a bit dry and with-holding. As I got 1/2 way down things began to change for the better, and a rich mellowness began to develop. The draw became easier, the flavor fuller, and by the time I reached the last inch or two it was quite delicious. Sadly, about this time the smoke started to get slightly wet and tangy, and that is where I usually end the proceedings.

After I had finished, couldn't help thinking where was all that satisfyingly smooth full flavor when I needed you, i.e. more from the start.

Well, I still have about 17 of these beauties left. Having thought about the experience I have decided that I smoked this one too soon, it was too green and wet. They need at least a year in the humi, and will only keep getting better, IMO. Cheers everybody, happy Summer. Larry.:s
