Review: Thompsons Amoroso Maduro

Churchill: 7x50
Wrapper: Maduro
Filler: Honduras
Beverage: California Cabernet Sauvignon
Ambience: Sitting in my little Apartment watching the All-Star Game
Price: $43.00 per box of 20 (quoted from the Thompsons Catalog)

Construction: Firm. Not too bad overall. Looked Nice.

Pre Light: Gifted by a friend, this one has been sitting in my humidor for about 3 weeks...I'm sure it had been sitting in his for awhile as well. I wasn't wild about smoking it, considering all of the bad press on Thompson's house brands, and the few bad ones that I have had before. Smell was nothing exciting.

Light Up: A bit spicy. Nice solid white ash the first 1/4 inch. Kind of tasted stale, but I stuck with it...

First 3rd: Nice Flavor! Pepper and Spice went away and gave way to a tasty Carmel Flavor. Burn required a small correction. Smoke Volume nothing to get excited about....

Second 3rd: Carmel Flavor all the way. Really Tasty! Required 2 additional corrections. Burn was definately uneven. Minor pepper/spice tastes, but that Carmel flavor was definately apparent.

Last 3rd: I'm Hungry. Let it burn out at about 1.5 inches. Still had the Carmel flavor going on. I'll complete this stick when I take my mutt out for a walk...

So far, so good...I'm more of a Robusto guy, so this stick is a bit long for me...

LOL.

I smoked it down to about an inch and it didn't get bitter and that Carmel flavor was still definately there. I loved the flavor of this smoke, but got a bit irritated with the constant burn corrections. With all that aside, I actually recommend it!

Two Thumbs Up!
