Thumbs up RP edge Maduro Torp Review

I had my first one of these over the 4th of July holiday, it was great.
I stopped in at my local B&M to buy some 12 year old scotch, and some beer before my brother and his family arrived. The smokeshop is a part of the liquor store so I stopped in. I picked up an AF (forgot which type) and an RP edge topr maduro. I fell in love with the type, and can't stop thinking about em. I scored a bundle of 15 3 weeks ago of the RP Vintage 1990's seconds and really like them too. The edge is slightly stronger but not by much. The two share similar taste due to the ligero. The overall strength isn't overwhelming but it is strong. I am not looking for a cigar to rip my mouth apart; the edge didn't. It is a well balanced cigar, long on taste, strength, and aroma, with solid construction. The burn was steady and was to my satisfaction. All in all, I really liked this smoke and look forward to getting more to bring to the beach this week.

Hey Thanks!

I'm smoking a RP Edge in a Churchill size right now. Price was about 7 bucks and recommended by one of the fellas at my local shop. Pretty Cigar! Very dark oily wrapper, nicely constructed and firm.

I'm about 1/3 through it. Not overpowering strong, I would call it medium body. So far it has some hints of chocolate, coffee and caramel. Nice draw and a good ammount of smoke.

Oh man, you hit the nail right on the head! Hehe, I bought 3 more for my beach week and loved every smoking minute of them. I only hope my B&M has replenished his stock of these puppies.

Re: RP edge Maduro Torp

I picked up a few from my B&M several months ago, and after the first one I was on the web trying to find a deal on a box! I ended up finding them for only $70/25 at www.atlanticcigar.com It was a special, but if you want to keep an eye out they may run it again. I have turned to the darkside (habanos) as of late, but when I have returned to one of these I am reminded of why I got a box to begin with.
Thanks for the review.

Hehe, I sure did Fizguy, greetings fellow Marylander! When I was there last (10 days ago), the owners wife said she and her husband were going out to the RTDA, and planned to increase their stock by the time they got back....yummm! It is a nice place, and the people are first rate.

I like strong cigars. The Edge was reccomended as something you'd have to sit down to try. I purchased several in St. Louis and found them to be medium strength at best. I purchased more at the local Tinder box with the same result.

Nothing like a La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel to get you to walk into the porch door without opening it!

The Edges were ok but what is with the strength hype?

I asked the same thing a while back. I haven't smoked one, but a buddy of mine did, and he said it wasn't as strong of a buzz as they advertised (and he has only smoked four or five cigars!).

So I don't get it.

IMO its just hype. It IS strong but well balanced with great flavors (leather, spice, cocao etc) They aren't nearly as strong and, in yer face as the JDN Antano's are or, the Padilla's 8/11's. No, these are just plain old good with a great finish that lingers. I love them.

Baric:
This is why I'm so hooked on this hobby, I always knew RP's were available but, didn't even try one. I read the reviews of others but, didn't have the inclination; I was in a K.Hansotia/Gurkha fixation. It wasn't until I won a bid several months ago on some RP Euros that I began to take notice. Even though the Euros are a toned down version of the regular Vintage line, they are very tasty too. So I then tried a bundle of the Vintage 1990s seconds and then one of the Edges about a month ago, and realized I was missing out.
Sigh, so now I am off on another fixation and am loving it.
