Arturo Fuente Cuban Belicoso NSG Review

So I picked up a box of these guys Friday night. After creating a new home for them (coolerdor) I wanted to have one to see how these are straight from the box.

I sat out on my porch a few minutes before sunset and kicked back with a sprite. Lit this baby up and puffed away. The cigars newness was noted right away on appearance. Brown in color, but fresh oils gave the wrapper a deep olive shiny coat. A bit veiny, but that never bothers me.

The draw was a bit tighter than I prefer, but not tight by anymeans. The taste right of the bat was good. Wood and earth, yet creamy. The first third was establishing the taste between a light wooden spicy and a leathery creamy taste. The ash was a light gray, borderline white and the construction was fantastic. Burnt dead straight.

When I reached the 2nd third, I ashed for the first time, purged, and drank some sprite to clear the palatte. The 2nd third gave a great deal of the same flavors found in the first third, just this time in much bigger doses. I did notice some newness in the taste. A bit grassy so I purged 2 times in this third.

The last third was just like the 2nd third. The ash never wanted to come off until I touched the edge to the ashtray. I took it quite low until it was pretty hot to my fingers. It was dark (after an hour+) and I decide to lay this stogie to rest.

Bottom line, this cigar rocks. If I have to describe the smoke, I will say it's like taking a fresh saddle, made of an old oak wood and aged leather, well polished and creamed, and then smoking it.

As my public service to CS, I will dig up this thread everytime I have another one of these cigars. I plan to have one in a month then again in 3 months, so we will see what kind of effect some age will have on this great stogie.

I just bought a box of these also, they came 2 days ago by UPS. I opened the box just to look at them, and they are things of beauty.

I had a feeling that I should be a bit patient, let them settle and age a bit, but now mrputts account makes me want to smoke one. I'll wait till Tues or Wed, then light one up. Will report my findings.

Yea, I will age the heck out of most of these, I just want to see how the process of aging changes them along the way. Good choice in cigar for sure.

I have about half left of a box of these from last year and they're getting better and better. A great value mid-priced smoke, IMHO.

Re: Arturo Fuente Cuban Belicoso NSG

O.K., I smoked one of them yesterday. It was smooth and rich tasting right from the first puff - unusual. I always consider the first 10 or so puffs just a warm-up, and not an indicator of quality. The stick got richer as I smoked down to the bottom 1/3rd, thoroughly enjoying the perfect draw and wonderful flavors.
As I got to the last 2 inches it started to get a bit damp and strong tasting, so I ditched it. This is where ageing plays a role IMO. I am convinced that the more age a stogie has, the more you can smoke it down, and the flavor will stay good.
Bottom line - my next one will be in 3 months, then 6 months. I'm in no hurry.
This is the great thing about having "too many cigars" (as my dear wife loves to say). In this hobby having too many gives you choices, and having choices is where I want to be.... Muahahahaha... Cheers, Larry.

Re: Arturo Fuente Cuban Belicoso NSG

This is perhaps my favorite in the Fuente line. Just a great all around smoke.

Thanks for the upadated age report, I will be looking forward to the 3 month review.

I have never tried the Cuban Belicoso or the King B, but I have both on hand. I wonder how they compare to one another? Thanks for the review! Look forward to the next one.

I can't vouch for it, but I have heard that the King B's were a little young. I have a few on hand but I haven't smoked one yet. I am just giving them a little time. As long as I have the Cuban Beli's on hand, I can afford to give the King B's some time....

Re: Arturo Fuente Cuban Belicoso NSG

Hey Guys - As I mentioned, I recently received a beautiful box of these which I had ordered from Holt's (nice people, good service btw).
I was going to pull one and try it, then found that I had a few loose ones, purchased a few months ago, so I smoked one of those. Soooo good, so satisfying, delicious, generous amounts of smoke, great draw, great flavor.

HOWEVER, It is almost a shame to smoke these beauties young... They will do nothing but get more mellow and more delicious, IMHO. So I've put them in back of my long term tupperdore, along with other full boxes of special smokes. Cheers, Larry.

Re: Arturo Fuente Cuban Belicoso NSG

Undoubtedly one of if not my favorite cigar in the Fuente line. Spicy, rich, smooth, cedary and slightly sweet due to the SG wrapper, just love em and they are a regular in the rotation and for the prices they can be bought at it makes them unbeatable.
