CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label Review

Size: 5.7 x 54
Wrapper: Corojo
Filler: Honduaran

Environment: Taking a walk on a quite pleasant evening with my fiancée.

Pre-light draw: Good, a little tight

Light: Roasted the foot with a torch; lit up pretty quickly with good medium flavor

First 1/3rd: Medium throughout. The draw is a bit tight. Good flavor sweet medium-bodied. Kind of dark.

Second 1/3rd: Started to open up with more of the same intensifying slightly.

Bottom 1/3rd: Started to get tarry and acrid. I blew it out which gave me another 2 minutes of smoking time and then I put it out.

Final Comments: The cigar was a good everyday smoke. Nothing really blew me away. The flavor was good until the middle of the bottom third but not great.

I got this cigar free in a sampler. The first one I tried was super dry and terrible. This was due to being in my humidor for only 3 days after the beetle exterminating regimen of freezing, etc. This cigar exceeded my expectations slightly due to the first one being so terrible.

I'm a huge fan of Rocky Patel cigars and smoke many of the blends quite often. I'm not sure if this is rolled in Rocky's factory or not; I would guess it isn't. If this cigar sold for about $1-$1.50 I may buy more. In my opinion there are a lot better cigars that are at the same price level (Indian Tobac Super Fuertes, Fire, Diesel, the list goes on.)

Hey, thanks for the review. I too am a RP fan and have been wondering about these CI Legends. I think I'll pickup a sampler of them to try out the different brands some time.

Re: CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label

I was gifted one of these sticks the other week and my experience sounds very much like yours: satisfactory construction; decent draw; pleasant enough earthy/chocolatey flavor; mild-to-medium body; not bad, nothing special. My conclusion: a good value $3 stick.

Thanks for the review. Keep 'em coming!

I haven't tried the orange label, but I like the Legends White Label (Comacho)

Re: CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label

Smoked one today. Did not have any problems with draw.
Even burn all the way through, no problems. Excellent draw, consistent start to finish. Plenty of good thick smoke. Has a clean after taste. Flavor was smooth with some spice. Flavor slowly built from start to finish, really enjoyed the smoke!
Medium strength and body. Nice mid day smoke. Would be a good buy if offered in a special purchase.

This reminds me that I have some more of these buried in my humidor. Maybe it's time to find one and see what 3 months has done! Thanks for the review!

Go for it and enjoy! Let me know how it smokes with some age.

Re: CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label

thanks for the review. I concur with your experience.

I just had my first Legend... and was very disapointed.

up to now, I haven't had that many, but I've enjoyed every RP stick I've tried...

I guess Mr. Patel, figured he had enough of his own legends, 'cause the one he made for CI wasn't worth the money IMO.

I've had mine in a humi for about a month... and it had almost no flavor... if I concentrate really hard, I think I can taste some tabbaco... and almost some of that RP richness that I expected... but just a hint. draw was really tight considering the thing looked like it was chock full of short/cut/shredded filler.

maybe a few more months of aging will help make me feel like I haven't wasted my money on the 5 pack.

Re: CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label

I smoked two of the Orange labels now - and I thought they were fine - sort of Patel "lights" though - as I agree they were mild.

Re: CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label

Reviving an old thread again. Smoked one of these today on the golf course. I really enjoyed it. Very similar to the REO by RP. Definately on the milder side, but a nice smoke. I too would consider these kind of RP Lights. They taste similar to his Vintage CT Wrapper to me. Mild with some hints of chocolate and some spice. Good everyday cigar.

Re: CI Legend - Rocky Patel Orange Label

I was bombed by one of each of the Legends and so far, I'm not impressed with any of them. I smoked the Patel and was disappointed with it. Nothing I was hoping for.
