Bad Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Robusto?

I just had this cigar tonight while BBQ'ing some chicken, after finishing one Corona. It was around 10pm and the temperature was around 85, high humidity. The first thing I noticed before lighting is that although the oils were still present, the cigar was very dry. The wrapper was beginning to flake a bit near the foot. I made the mistake of taking this with me when I went out a few nights ago and it sat in the glove box in cellophane overnight. Despite me putting it in a humidi-pouch for a couple nights I believe I may have ruined this cigar. It took me quite a few wooden matches to get it lit and once I did it burned unevenly. The smoke was very thin and I felt like I had to draw very hard to get the proper amount of smoke. The taste was harsh and spicy with no flavor at all. After about an inch and a half I set it down to die. Because I think it was me who mistreated this stick I’ll be willing to try one again, but it definitely won’t be high on my list of priorities.

I have had nothing but good luck with Patels. I have smoked a couple different sizes-coronas and robustos-1990 and 1992. Give them another chance. I find them to be very consistant.

1990 is a good smoke. I'd say pick up another one and give it another shot.

I had a '92 a few weeks ago. The taste was great, but I think I had a plug in it or something because the draw was very tight. However, after reading all of your comments, I think I need to give it another try

Oh yeah give it another try bro. The 90's and the edge are my favorite RP's. Not as fond of the 92's, I've not had much luck with them for some reason, the 6 or 8 of them I've had have been pretty bland compared to the 90's.

Just smoked a 1990 last night and it was great. I had it in my himi for about 2 weeks because it looked dry. No probs when I fired it up. Not a ton of smoke but enough. Good flavor. I had the Torpedo and I went through 3 beers when that stick. Get another one! I got a good deal on a fiver at cbid.

It sounds to me as if you simply had a bad one. I agree with CG though, I have not had a bad one of the RP 1990's and I like them a lot.

One of my personal favorites. Definatly give it another shot, from a different vendor. Best cigar I've had this summer was a Vintage 1990 churchill.
