Rocky Patel Connecticut Toro Review

This is the 3rd cigar I have reviewed this week and I am really getting some good feedback so here goes.

Weather: around 90* with a little breeze.

Drink: nothing

Initial Thoughts: this is a very light connecticut wrapper. It is a little veiny but that is never usually an issue with me. It cut easy and had a very loose draw. Nice pre-light aroma.

Upon Lighting: initially there were no hints of anything to me, just a good tobacco taste. The draw was a little loose for the first third but this cigar had a great taste and settled in nicely. This cigar was as smooth as cigars that cost three times as much to me. It had a little hint of citrus to me but I am in Florida so that could be anything. It was very creamy and developed better flavors and character as it went. The last half of the cigar being as good as any that I have smoked. You can really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making these. It held the ash for about 3 inches before finally falling off and then the second ash lasted until I nubbed it. Overall great morning-midday smoke with a lot of flavor and a medium kick at the end. It can be smoked on an empty stomach with ease making it a perfect smoke for early in the day.

I highly recommend this stick and will probably have to put these in the rotation.

Smoked a bunch of these...I like them, they are inexpensive and good for a milder smoke. Every single one has great construction.

Re: Rocky Patel Connecticut Toro

I smoked one out of the humi after a 2 month rest and I liked it quite a bit, but the whole time it seemed it would get even better with some age to it - maybe another 4 months. For some reason I thought it tasted a touch "undercooked", like there was some mellowing that hadn't quite taken hold. Agree with very well constructed tons of smoke etc
Any inputs on how these do with a little more age (and for that matter connecticut wrappers in general) would be appreciated.

Re: Rocky Patel Connecticut Toro

The only RP smoke I've tried that I don't like. Scored a fiver on C-Bid and have had a few of these. It's like a clash of two cigars.....the filler is traditional RP which is to say dark and full tasting (ie. Vintage and Edge) but the Connecticut wrapper is, well, Connecticut. Mild and thin. I don't like the combo. The taste reminds me of the 5 Vegas Gold but I think the Gold tastes better.

Greenwit:
I just wrote a review on the RP Edge lite. It has a Connecticut wrapper, and I too was fooled (at first) by it; I thought it tasted like a 5 Vegas gold at first also. But, after the first 2 to 3 inches, I changed my mind. I recommend you try the RP Edge lite, I am sure you will like tha much better.

I have purchased all three of these and would have to say the Connecticut is my fave by far. The Edge Lite runs a close second, but the Connecticut has become my "Go to" cigar. I recently purchased my second box, while the 5 Vegas Golds have been reduced to my "give-away" cigars. The 5 Vegas are OK, but the Connecticut really appeals to me.

I'm a huge RP fan... this Connecticut is a very good cigar IMHO. Thanks for the review!

The Connecticut wrapper is smooth. The usual RP taste inside, excellect. And as always, great construction and burn.

Billy
I bought a couple of 5 packs back in December. After letting them sit for just a couple of weeks I wasn't overly impressed with them. They were competing against CAO Gold and 5 Vegas Gold as my weekend morning cigar.

I pulled one out a couple of weeks ago and it was alot better than I remembered now that it has been sitting in the humi for 7-8 months.
