Edge Lite Review

I smoked a Black Pearl Rojo while doing the lawn today, then after a shower I smoked an RP Edge Maduro while reading my 7th good book of the summer. My wife went out and called home to ask me to grill some brats for me and my boys while she was enjoying a jazz concert with one of her girlfriends. So I went to the Liq/B&M and picked up another 12 pack and 2 RP Edges ( 1 lite and 1 Corojo). I fired up the Edge lite as I started the grill. The first couple of pulls seemed as if I was smoking a lite beer version of the Edge maduro I had just finished 45 minutes previously. But more of a lite version of a guiness, rather than a Miller lite or it's equivalent. This smoke is good! The connectcut wrapper is smooth without blemish. It adds the typical Connecticut wrapper flavor but, the recipe (read blend) of Rocky Patel is completely prevalent. It;s got spice, flavor, leather and aroma of the Edge but with a lighter connecticut accent. The draw was perfect, and the burn was without difficulty. It was well constructed and the blend of the regular fullbodied Edge was in full attendance. I was almost fooled at first; I thought it tasted like a 5 vegas gold at first but, that was within the first 2 inches and, due to the connecticut wrapper. But, afterwards the blend of the edge came through, and during the final 1/4 of it, it was as if I was smoking the regular Edge and not the lite version; there was a lot of spice and toastiness. Man the aroma was awesome, and so was the taste!
I recommend this without hesitation but, there is a caveat, if yer looking for a light smoke, this aint it. It is more medium to full and more of a segue to fuller bodied smokes; very much an intermediate smoke. All in all, a very pleasing experience, and well worth the time and reasonable money spent.

Re: Edge Lite

I totally enjoy the Edge Lights, they were recommended at one of my local B&M's. Actully it was the look on the guys face who had just bought a box of fifty that convinced me to try them.

Re: Edge Lite

Nice review, I'm definetly going to have to try one of these now. At first I was thinking; why not just smoke the edge if you're going for that flavor? This kind of convinces me, "This is why, because it's different!"

Thanks!

Great review,
Mike
CP, not exactly fullbodied but, it isn't lite. It is mild but not in the way most would think. It's my guess that RP calls it lite because by comparison, it IS lighter than the regular Edge. At any rate, it is an excellent smoke, and worth a try for you, if for no other reason than curiosity. I recommend them to you, nad if it doesn't work foryou, send em to me

Re: Edge Lite

I simply cannot believe that I've never smoked an edge. I know I have one buried in the humi somewhere. Don't know if it is the reg or lite. Is there anyway to tell from just looking at it?

Me neither- I've had the vintage 90's and Sungrowns but keep forgetting about the edges- gonna grab one or two this week I think.

Yeah the wrapper is lighter in color, just like a connecticut wrapper. Maybe more of a connecticut shade wrapper.

Re: Edge Lite

I'm bringing this thread up again because I just had my first Edge light yesterday.

It was a really wonderful smoke. I had hesitations, because I usually prefer the darker wrappers, but this stogie has a fullness and roundness that is very seductive. It started out with an easy draw and clouds of smooth smoke with hints of cafe au lait. It was deceptively easy and mellow until a bit more than 1/2 way, then the draw firmed up a bit and the flavors became a whole lot more intense. By 2/3 down I was getting a strong nicotine hit, and shortly after let it go. It was almost like 2 different cigars in one, i.e. mild first 1/2, and a powerful 2nd.

I think this dichotomy will even itself out with time, and there will be more of an evenness.

I'm sure many jungle dwellers have tried these since this thread ended, I was thinking that a little more input could be interesting... Larry.
