Arturo Fuente 858 Sun-grown Review

Well , with the urging from Lance I had to burn this rare cigar . He warned me of possible mold problems with it and when I checked it out I found what was probably the beginning of mold on it - little white spots . So I wiped the spots off and put it back in the cello in my humi for a few days . So on Saturday I decided it was time to burn it . Place - on the beach(59th St.) in Ocean City , NJ . Weather was sunny and hot , temp around 88 and not very humid . Drank iced green tea with it . Lance says its a spicy cigar and is right on with that detail . Burn was even all the way . Flavors were of spicy woodiness and tobacco all the way through . Did I mention it was spicy ? At times I got a little hot so most of this cigar was enjoyed knee deep in the ocean while watching over my 2 little girls playing in the shallows near a stone jetty . Great cigar during a great day at the beach with my family . Only wish I had more of them .

Glad you enjoyed it!

That is definately a smoke I wish I could get more of.

Without a doubt one of the spiciest cigars I have ever smoked.

Very hard to find. I'm going up to Vegas next month with a buddy, and hope to find them .. Actually I'm bringing a whole big shopping list with me to Casa Fuente.

Re: Arturo Fuente 858 Sun-grown

Smoked one yesterday myself....My question is whether storing 858 for longer periods of time helps the consistency of burn? Or possibly drying them out a bit would help?? I know I love the cigar though. But, I find the Curly heads a bit too in consistent. Perhaps that is so to offer tobacco in a cheaper stick? Who knows?

I had the 858 in my humi for about 6 months at 65% rh .

I love these. They are my favorite Fuente Sun-grown. Along with everyone else, I wish they were more readily available.

I absolutely love the 858 Maduros, and, based on their reviews on Top25Cigar, have been searching high and low for some (one) of the Sungrowns for a couple of months now. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. At least I can live vicariously through other gorilla's reviews!

I'm enjoying one right now and I'd have to agree, this is a nice spicy smoke.

I can't speak for the new release ones but the old release definitely burn great with age. The spice is somewhat toned down with age which allows the other flavors to shine through.

Re: Arturo Fuente 858 Sun-grown

Fuente could make these cigars plentiful and accessible if they wanted to. Think about it - they most certainly have tons of the sun grown wrapper, and the filler does not, as far as I know, contain any particularly rare or costly leaf.

They do this with the 858 SG, Anejo and Opus just to keep the Fuente name on everybody's lips.

That being said, I love the cigars they make. I just do not feel any urgency about finding the rare ones, because the ones I have smoked, i.e. Anejo, Opus, BTL are all very good smokes, but I personally don't enjoy them any more than the classics and Chateau series. JMO. Larry

Re: Arturo Fuente 858 Sun-grown

A local shop had a box of these, so I picked a few up. Let then sit for a bit and tried one a week back. It was a fuente sungrown, size felt nice in the hand, but I don't believe the taste was in anyway superior to the other fuente sungrowns.
