Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Torpedo Review

RP Cuban Blend Torpedo

Info from Famous-smoke.com

Country: Honduras
Length/Ring: 6 x 52
Shape: Torpedo
Wrapper: Maduro

Review:
Wrapper is dark, smoth, veiny, pre-light taste is peppery and rich, the construction is top notch. light was good, lit right away with torch. good med-full flavor with pepper, raisin, and spice. the burn is excellent and the draw is perfect!

The smoke is just a tad harsh because this is a brand new cigar that's had no humi time. I love the taste, this really reminds me of the Don Kiki brown label (I've been saying that a lot, hopefully it's not becoming cliché)

I'm drinking coffee and eating fresh fajitas which are probably messing with my palatte a little, but actually this cigar goes perfect with the combo.

Unfortunately I had to put this out at 2” to leave for a radio interview my band was doing. I miscalculated the time it would take to smoke this baby. Next time I will allow more time to really enjoy the whole stick. This reminds me quite a bit of the deisel (one of my buds just made the same comment yesterday when I brought him one to try over several games of cribage. I would say this has more complexity than the Diesels. A thoroughly enjoyable smoke.! I will let the others rest a couple weeks and try another. I have a feeling I will be ordering more.

Re: Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Torpedo

Smoked another one from my humidor.

Executive Summary: Great cigar. Good construction. Starts out with a nice spicy kick and smooths out/settles down to a good medium finish with a good flavor I can't quite pin point.

I lit this baby up on my way home from work and cracked open Stevens Point Root Beer (my favorite root beer). I like this cigar a lot; got a fiver from Famous (they are apparently the only place you can order these). This is on my list of boxes to buy for sure! The only thing I don't like is the name; it's kind of a marketing gimmick IMHO.

Thanks for the review - I have been eyeing these... I'm pretty sure FS has a special when you buy a box (RP 7 Cigar Sampler).

These are good smokes for sure. I have smoked a couple five packs of the toros and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. They look beautiful too.

These Cuban Blends are excellent. Being a noobie I'm still developing my pallette but the RPs I have sampled have been most enjoyable.

Nice review Tristan. Thanks!

So now a question. Everybody has uniformly good things to say about RPs cigars and company. Why, then, would he name this cigar "Cuban Blend". Why do any of the cigar mfgs do this if not to try and mislead the uniformed buyer or try to play on the legend of Cuban cigars.

I mean, c'mon. They should have a little pride in their product and call it what it is or some other catchy name like the "The Edge". How about "Smooth Smoking Big Flavor MoFo Blend". I've never seen a cigar named that.

Dude

Re: Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Torpedo

I agree...the band even has a shaded outline of Cuba behind the lettering...

They really should try to be more creative.

Re: Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Torpedo

I heard that the govt of Cuba is going to start producing some new brands soon:
"Real Nicaraguan Blend"
"Costa Rican Corojo"
and
"Honduran 2000 seed"

You'll have to watch out, however. A lot of these that show up in the states will be counterfeit. You'll actually just end up with a regular Cuban cigar and not a Costa Rican.

Re: Rocky Patel Cuban Blend Torpedo

Nice review Tristan. I have had one of these resting in my humi for about a month. IMHO RP doesn't make bad cigars anyhow. Should we (BOTL & SOTL) expect anything different from RP cigars?
