Cu-Avana Maduro -- A "working man's cigar"
PREFACE:
Okay... Go to "Top25," and you'll get some mixed reviews on Cu-Avano's maduros. Yes, it's a light-medium stick. But it doesn't pretend to be anything more or less than that. It is (IMHO) the "Poor Man's Macanudo," and I believe it deserves some credit as such! SITUATION: I'm stone-cold whipped from the drive out to my (aging) folks place. The mercury is holding steady at 90 degrees. My mission is to assemble a picnic table for them. My beverage is a frosty-cold Becks Dark beer. I need a "working cigar". What I DON'T need is an expensive stick that requires me to relax. What I DO need is a cigar that will compliment my beverage, burn cleanly, and doesn't give me any crap! PRE-LIGHT: This Churchill has been in the humi for several months, so I figure it won't give me any problems. It didn't. CONSTRUCTION & BURN: This is a very well-crafted cigar. Even as the sweat dripped from my brow onto the cigar, it never required a correction. BODY & FLAVOR: If I were mulling over a glass of well-iced bourbon, I'd call this cigar a piece of trash. But I wasn't in such an enviable position. And I shall call this cigar "golden." Sometimes, the "cigar experience" is isolated and sublime. Sometimes it's in the heat of our daily battle to keep our heads above water! Flavor is that nice, nutty-earthy-chocolaty-coffee thing we maduro-lovers appreciate. Body is (as I've said) mild-to-medium. SUMMARY: If you're looking for a knock-down-awesome cigar, FORGET ABOUT IT! If you're looking for a working man's smoke that you can tuck into your humi and count on when you need it, THINK ABOUT IT! PRE-LIGHT: |

Re: Cu-Avana Maduro -- A "working man's cigar"
Great review, My wife and I work thirteen acres its not alot but it's all we can handle. The Cu-Avana sounds like cigar that might be pretty good. I think I've seen them on Cbid. I'll have to check them out.

Re: Cu-Avana Maduro -- A "working man's cigar"
Great review-i think its great that you give the cigar its dues and rate it in working mans category. interesting way to go as often one isnt looking for a padron when working/completely drunk/any situation that might compromise your ability to appreciate a cigars nuances.

Nice review, can you still smoke & enjoy them if your retired, lazy and just loafing outside on the patio sitting in a chair?

Papa, I'm in my mid-50s... My father is in his early-80s. After finishing the picnic table, we "retired" to the deck, broke out a couple of C-A Belicoso Maduros, poured an icy-cold beer, and enjoyed the business of enjoyment! I guess my point in the review was that the C-A doesn't need an "occasion." It's just one of those everyday cigars that doesn't disappoint (And BELIEVE ME, I've be disappointed by MANY cigars at thrice the price!). Onward & Forward! |

Your right. I guess I've never looked for an "occasion" to break out a decent cigar. Considering the stuff I smoked in my younger years that was picked out of the rack at our local Safeway I find myself these days content to idle away an afternoon or evening with something as simple as a La Finca & the next time a ERDM or in the case of last night a HDM Du Prince..wait a minute that was a special occasion ![]() |

Papa, You nailed it! A "special occasion" is the morning when you wake up and open your eyes! That considered, a "special cigar" is whatever the hell you feel like!!!! Onward and forward! |
