A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story Review

So it was about 3:00 and I was really craving a stogie.

The mailman had brought me some Habanos and some Fuentes from SeriousCigar.

Lighting up the Short Story was really simple. Initially, the first 5 minutes was very melow. About 1/4 inch into it, she got really peppery and had a strong dirt flavor.
I was not expecting that, since most the reviews I've read have lead to this cigar being creamy with some vanilla.

My short story continued to be peppery all the way down to the last inch where I stopped smoking it.

Maybe I should have let it sit in my humidor for awhile before torching it up...

Never the less, construction on this little cigar was great. It had a few oily patches, but nothing too great.
The burn was a little uneven at times, but nothing I could not fix. It also provided a nice, strong white ash.

I was debating a Montecristo White or Short Story today, I kinda wished I would have tried out the White.

One of my all time favs. I bought a box and have smoked about half...even the ones that are aged an extra month or two have that peppery flavor...dyn-o-mite little smoke!

wow- i've seen them for as much as $8 in L.A. ! They are tasty little treats though, perfect for the bar scene out here, quick and good looking. And super great tasting!

Re: A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story

I actually had a hemingway best seller yesterday (which is slightly larger than the short story) and I wasn't very impressed. It had hardly any smoke and didn't taste particularly good. I was rather disappointed after reading that so many people like them - I actually gave it a 2/3 out of 10. I have a short story sitting in my humi that I probably won't touch for a while after smoking the best seller (I am afraid it is going to taste similar).

I've seen them for as much as $10.- in the Long Beach CA area.
I find it difficult to believe than many B&Ms will survive here especially if the
tax hike on cigars (from 47% to 100% I think) goes through.

As far as the short story goes - Love 'em, quite a complex little smoke.

Bests

It's odd because I've never had any pepper flavor come through on any of mine. I wonder if they've changed the blend a bit.

I just smoked the signature and it wasn't even close to being as good as the story. Hold onto that SS until you are doing some BBQing and smoke it pre dinner while you grill and get back to me. It's perfect for this kind of situation too.

Re: A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story

I have to agree with montecristo #2 on my experience with the Hemingway though.

It just didnt taste that great, and didnt seem like it matched up with all the reviews it has recieved.

Ouch! I get them for $5.50 at my local B&M. 'Course SC does have pretty low tobacco taxes. They are a really good short smoke.

Re: A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story

the short storys I have smoked are like what others have reviewed. a creamy vanilla flavor, and a buttery finish...though if you get one of the larger sizes you can get many more complex layers befor ever reaching same flavors as the short story, IMO I go for the short story cuase the other cigars in the hemigway collection don't have the same start, and most have poor construction for allowing a good draw (they tend to run a bit too). In fact the short story is going to be one of the first boxes I buy for my newly invested coolidor. can't wait to see what happens with 1 year of slumber on these babies.

peace out,
Robert

Re: A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story

I've heard way too much about the hemingway series to go on without trying one, but after reading this maybe I'll let one sit in the 'dor for a little bit before indulging.
