Exclamation AVO Maduro Review

Let me preface this by telling all the LLG's here that i was looking forward to trying this stick... i have heard good things about the brand and thought the Maduro would be something special. I Paid 7 or 8 bucks for it at a local B&M.

The construction on the stick was sub-par, with a lot of veins and seams where the wrapper leaves met. Well i lit the foot and instantly i was immersed in an essence of gasoline... needless to say i was not to excited about the possible substitute for fossile fuels, but i thought, well sometimes the initial fire-up can be a little rough, maybe it will calm down a little once it gets the burn on... well it did. It manifasted itself into something my dogs would recognize in the backyard! This essence of dog rocket never really left, and eventually built into a sewer-like taste. Even my wife who was sitting out on the front porch commented on how putrid the cigar smelled.

I dont know if this is how all the AVO Maduros taste, if maybe it would have developed some tobacco like taste if it sat in the humi a few years, but i was sorely dissapointed in the smoke. Has anyone else had a like experience with one of these?

Re: AVO Maduro

Thanks for the review! I'm sorry to hear that your experience was suboptimal.

I wouldn't say my experience with the AVO Maduro was quite as heinous, but it was sort of blah for me. There was nothing compelling enough to be at the top of my list of singles to buy. I also expected this dark maduro wrapper to yeild a fuller body than what I experienced.

At the time I was on a huge maduro kick and my sinuses were really douching me; it was a time where a CAO Brazillia did not taste a tad over medium. So I mad have to give it another shot in the future; just not so compelled to pay over $6 for this thing.

Re: AVO Maduro

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. Good review though. I've always liked these sticks, especially in the morning with coffee. I haven't had any construction problems or bad flavors with the ones I've smoked. They are kind of mild for my tastes; that's why I like them early in the day. I do balk at the price though.

Re: AVO Maduro

My friend had a very similar experience tonight as well. He bought and lit up a RyJ Reserve Maduro. I tasted it and it tasted like too-charred wood, real harsh. GROSS

Thanks for the review-you took one for the team and now due to your selfless act, many other BOTLs wont make the same mistake! it sounds absolutely awful-ive not even found those sorts of flavours in bargain bin seconds ive bought before.

Re: AVO Maduro

I have the AVO 5-pack sampler, but have yet to try one. I'll let them sit for a while longer.

The AVO 80th is a really nice smoke. If you get your hands on one of these, make sure you have it after a big meat-n-potatoes type dinner or it will hit you right in the gut. Thanks for the heads up about the maduro.

Re: AVO Maduro

I had one of these for the first time a couple weeks ago. It wasn't putrid like yours but it was pretty unimpressive to me and didn't go on my "buy again" list.

Re: AVO Maduro

The AVO Maduro #2 Toro is a good looking stick I have been looking forward to smoking so fired one up this evening. Pre-light everything was great but when lit I was underwhelmed. Good draw, nice burn but the flavor did nothing for me. IMHO there are many better maddies at much better prices.
