Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Churchill Review

Here goes my second review:

Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Churchill

APPEARENCE and initial observations:
-A natural, medium brown, EMS color.
-Flawless construction.
-Invisibly small tooth, silky, and rediculously shiny.
-Veins are numerous with a few protruding greatly from the wrapper.
-Not dense at all, very soft and spongy.

Initial SCENT:
-Super sweet and raisin-esque.
-Very sharp w/quite a bite.
-The odor of this cigar is VERY reminiscent of chewing tobacco.

Post-light AROMA:
-Nutmeg, reminds me of pumpkin pie.

BURN:
-Zig-zagged for the first half-inch, but very quickly evened out.
-Canoed twice, but were easily corrected.

DRAW:
-One word... effortless.

FLAVOR:
-First half: nut and cinnamon overtones, decidedly sweet, slightly spicy, not very smoky or toasty, not a trace of harshness.
-Second half: acquires slight coffee and vanilla flavors, toastiness developes nicely, nutty overtones remain.

TEXTURE of smoke:
-First half: smooth, a bit thin for the first inch, but thickened-up nicely.
-Second half: stayed smooth, became slightly creamier, but never got chokingly dense.

VOLUME of smoke per puff:
-Adequate,slightly more thin than average at first.
-Quickly grew to a copious level.

AFTERTASTE and its persistence on the palate:
-Almost nonexistant, only a slight nuttiness and sweetness remain.
-Very good finish, made my MOUTH WATER.

STRENGTH (or nicotine):
-First half: very mild.
-Second half: grew ever so slightly, remained at a very low strength.

ASH:
-Fairly delicate, indicative of this cigar's porous nature.

VALUE:
-Paid $2.79 each, about the same as the box price at CI.
-Great value for the price, IMHO.

OVERALL:
-This cigar's EXCELLANT flavors are quite robust and really gratifying.
-All other factors concerning the body of this cigar, however, are considerably mild.
-Has a sweetness that I can only describe as DELICIOUS.

SCORE on my 10 point scale (7 being average):
-a very solid 9.2 score.
-would've scored 9.3, but docked .1 point for burn issues.

On a side note, I think that this would be a great beginner smoke. It is very mild bodied, but has very robust flavors. The price isn't prohibitive, either.

I bought my first SLR Reserva Especial last week. Haven't smoked it yet, but your review has me thinking about it...

Re: Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Churchill

I had one of these about a month ago, same size, and i enjoyed it. I agree that it'd make a good beginner smoke, it's pretty mild and i found it quite enjoyable. I happened to be with my girlfriend, and she tried a bit of it and liked it as well (she doesn't smoke but will occasionally try some of my cigars while she's "holding it" for me)
I will definitely purchase them again in the future, I think your review matches my feelings almost exactly

Re: Saint Luis Rey Reserva Especial Churchill

The SLR Corona is a great little cigar and has a very nice taste and all for a great little price @ retail of about $2.70 cents! Nice smoke for such a small price.
