Camacho Coyolar - small stogie that packs a nice punch!

At 3.50 a stick, this cigar was really a no-brainer for a sample weekend batch.
With such a short stick, cutting off 1/8 inch seemed like a travesty!
Lighting it was no problem, since the end was tapered - one inhale and a strong plume of smoke entered my mouth -super flavor!
First a flavorful earthy tone followed by what i considered a leathery aftertaste. Puffing out the smoke, a manly cloud ensued...I almost had to beat my chest.

This little guy really packs the good stuff - and even though it's size was meager compared to even a robusto - I was able to enjoy a good 30 minutes out of the this cigar.

With tapered ends, I had a real problem keeping the end dry - and halfway through the cigar i could really notice the tar gathering at the mouth end. Bleh! I had a sweet drink to compliment the stick which made for a perfect balance of a normally stronger than usual (for me) cigar.
With that said, the stick was great - compelx flavors that kept me entertained (as far as cigars go) and a nice even and HOT burn. Ash produced was quality white and held to the stick for dear life.

If you like flavorful cigars, then you should consider this one - I have been frequenting medium stogie's, but I am seeing the future and this stick is finding its way back into my collection by the handful!

Flavor: 4 out of 5
Mildness - 1 out of 5
Burn and heat - 4 out of 4 (this stick ran hot)
Buying again: 5 out of 5

I think the samples that I've tried had WAY too much ligero...overpowering the smoke

Sounds like a good stick to try. In Delaware we actually had a Camacho rep come to our local B & M for a showing that I missed-damn you weddings!

As much as I LOVE camacho products, I have to agree with you on this one.. the Coyolar is just TOO much for me.. the Ligero is overpowering.

I believe the cigar is ALL ligero.. I had the robusto and it was too much for me, but the smaller Perfecto #1 is great - I bought a box..

This little stick is a power house, but I like it.
Always seem to have a couple of the little perfecto's or rothschilds around, the bigger ones might be too much.

I might have to try this one. I have a few little spicy sticks in my humidor that I haven't tried yet- Rocky Patel Sungrown PC, Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte (two larger sizes)...I guess I should add a few more!

Re: Camacho Coyolar - small stogie that packs a nice punch!

I received a rothschild in a trade with Bigwaved a couple months ago.

I don't think I tolerate strong cigars so I was reluctant to try this one. Fired it up this morning about an hour after a pretty big breakfast (just to be sure).

I thought it was great. I am not big on the descriptive words, but I thought it had a rich and smooth tobacco taste with loads of flavor. I was not overpowered by it, I am surprised to say, and am happy about that because I have a 5'er (figurados - 6x54) from the devilsite resting. Loads of smoke. It may have been a little to dry (draw was fairly loose) - Just got back from 1.5 week vacation and the humi was showing 61%?

I have not heard a lot about Camacho recently (since Pepin has taken over !!!), but everything I had heard in the past was good - except maybe the cigar was too strong. I was a little put off by that, but was very happy with the rothchild. I am not a big fan of the hugging the porcelin and than crawling to bed for an hour rest feeling after a cigar. The larger Figurados I have may be a different strory and more powerful, so I will give them some time to age.

Bottom line - I really enjoyed the rothchild. If you are interested I think this a good size to try. Thanks Bigwaved.

Almost forgot to mention - I did have some burn issues. A little "canoeing" right away and a few touchups for a small cigar seemed a little much. Didn't bother me too much or seem to affect the flavor, just a minor annoyance.

Cheers,

BillyBarue

Re: Camacho Coyolar - small stogie that packs a nice punch!

Lately I have gotten on a Camacho craze and like all that I have smoked in the Corojo line. I have read some stuff on the Coyolar and am very interested. Now that I read your review, I am even more interested. The Coyolar is described even by Camacho as being more fuller bodied than the Corojo, which IMo is saying a lot. I'm gonna hafta get some of them.
