Newbie Review: CAO Moontrance, Cuban/Havana Honeys, Kahlua Mudslide (Tins)
Hello All,
I was gifted 3 flavored cigar tins from Eternal Rider. I already had in my possession a tin of Kahlua Mudslides. What follows are my brief reviews of each flavored cigarillo and order of preference. CAO Moontrance: The Moontrace was a pretty good cigar. On the tin it says it uses the CAO Blue Note aromatics from their pipe tobacco. It smells like vanilla and coconut. The cigar did not taste very sweet on the lips. The plus of this cigar was in the smell of the smoke. It smelled very good and might be something to smoke around people who do not care for cigar smoke. The flavor of the tobacco was not that bad but there was not enough of it. Cuban Honeys (regular flavor I guess? - Honey): Very good flavor. I believe this is their standard flavor because it did not have "cherry" or anything on the tin. I am not sure what these are sweetend with, I'd guess honey. This went very well with coffee. The cigar had a good amount of taste on the lips. The tobacco had a good taste and was not harsh. The tobacco in the Cuban Honeys seemed like the best out of all four. Havana Honeys (Cherry): I compared this to a Swisher Sweet. It was harsh, did not taste very well and did not have much flavor. Tried one myself and confirmed by a friend who had the same impressions. Only good thing going for it is the smell of the smoke. Don't know what I'm going to do with the other 8 because these are pretty bad smokes. Kahlua Mudslides: These are made by Drew Estate, so I thought they'd be pretty good. They are not that bad, but again there is the harshness of the tobacco. The cigar tasted very sweet on the lips and lasted the entire time. I thought this was an average cigar. My order of preference is: #1.) Cuban Honeys - Very very good small cigarillo. Would buy again. #2.) CAO Moontrance - Good Aroma. Flavor was was lacking, but was not very harsh. #3.) Kahlua Mudslides - Good taste, but a notch below the CAOs. #4.) Havan Honeys (Cherry) - Awful cigar. Was harsh and had very little cherry taste. -T2 Last edited by tippytwo; 08-15-2006 at 01:11 AM.. |

i enjoy a flavored every once in awhile. biggest problem i have with them is the hashness. between the bad tobacco and the sweeteners, most of them are pretty much unbearable. wasn't a fan of kahlua, they were a bigger size though. best i've had was backwoods honey berry, pretty cheap too, thats a plus. but nice reviews.

I'd also like to remind or reiterate to anyone reading the review that all of the cigars I reviewed were cigarillos and came in tins of 8 or 10. So these are all small smokes. -T2 |

AS far as I'm concerned if you're going to smoke a "flavors" you might as spend an extra dollar and smoke a macanudo...smooth with a lot more taste than a flavor...

I had a couple of the Havana Honeys in the past (they were in glass tubes), and they were really, really harsh after the first few puffs. In fact, they left a nasty tongue feel that took a day or so to fade from the taste buds.

Thanks for the thread. I'm a newbie to,and have beena little reluctanct to discuss flavored smokes on this here site(lots of negative vibes on these sweet smokes goin on around this here place). But thats ok. I still enjoy a Swisher blunt on the way to the grocery store. If you enjoy a "sweetie" you might want to try Tambor Essence Capussino. It doesn't have an overpowering sweetness, retains a good tobacco flavor plus other attributes of a good cigar. You know, easy draw, good burn, and so on. In my opinion a real nice smoke.
