Indian Tabac Reserve Candela Review

Still a newbie here and I think I'll always be experimenting with new smokes. I've always looked at the Candela wrapper and was never impressed by the green color. I bought a RP Mild Sampler that had the Reserve Candela in it so I decided to fire one up. The first thing I noticed was the spongy feel of the stick as a whole. I don't think it was rolled too tightly. I lit the stick and it started to burn evenly for the first 1/2 inch. A tad spicy at first but mellowed quickely. There wasn't much flavor after the first inch. I know it is supposed to be a mild cigar but I couldn't taste much of anything. The draw was easy, probably because of the loose roll. After the first inch, it started to burn very unevenly. I had to keep touching it up. After halfway through I started to taste a heavy ammonia taste. The filler started burning faster than the wrapper and it started to pucker around the ends. I had to put it out of its misery after that and grab a Punch Rare Corojo so my tastebuds wouldn't shut down on me.
Has anyone had a similiar experience? I don't want to write off a candela wrapper after one bad smoke.
Thanks for reading.

Re: Indian Tabac Reserve Candela

My friend smoked an Arturo Fuente Candela the other day when I was with him.

He said that it was very mild with little to no flavour. His burnt pretty well though.

I don't know how well he maintains his humidor though, but I know his was sitting for quite awhile.

The ammonia taste was probably due to being too young. So maybe if it would have rested it would have tasted better.

I'm still looking locally to find a few candelas. Been wanting to try something different, but I can't find them around here. I don't want to buy a box online to find out that I don't like them.

Thanks for the review. A little time in the humi will help.

Re: Indian Tabac Reserve Candela

It was probably too young or wet. If the flavors were appealing to you, I recommend that you let the restyy of em rest for a few weeks and try em again.

Re: Indian Tabac Reserve Candela

Thanks. Always enjoy a candela review.

I've got two Camacho Candela robustos in the humidor and I'm looking forward to em... if nothing else they should be different.

Re: Indian Tabac Reserve Candela

Well, I smoked the candela that Bruisedawg sent me.....Let's just say my experience was very similar to his.

The start of the stick was a bit spicy, but mellowed out very quickly. The cigar itself was "spongy" and didn't feel like it was rolled tightly. This stick didn't produce much smoke, as I actually had to double draw to get a decent amount of smoke through. This is a mild/med stick, heading more towards the mild side right after lighting. It wasn't a bad overall taste, but it surely was different. With about 2.5 inches to go, I pitched it as the flavor basically just disappeared and started to taste like burnt cardboard.

Not sure I would run out and buy a box of these yet, but it is something I defintely want to try again. I don't want to write off these cigars yet, I'll buy a 5er if I can find a decent price on them.
