Oliva Master Blends 3: First Look

I just received a box of Oliva Master Blends 3. Before I do a serious review for the Stogie Fresh Cigar Journal I always try a stick early, just to get a feel for the tobacco and take photos, etc. I usually let them sit for a few weeks before the first review. So, I cracked open the box and pulled one out for a test drive.

For those of you who have tried the Master Blends 2, this is a really different cigar. Right away you can see the difference in the wrapper color. The MB 3 has a dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, while the MB 2 has a light Sumatra.

The new MB 3 is much fuller bodied and flavored, with plenty of Nicaraguan ligero in the filler. The MB 2 was more delicate and showed a lot of finesse, while the MB 3 is more powerful and has a spicy twang to it. This new cigar will appeal to those of you who like a fuller blend.

Right now I would match this with an aged Bourbon, a Port, or Port Finished Scotch, a Zinfandel or an espresso.

I don't want to shoot my load here, I will be giving this cigar a full review in the SF Journal soon.

Actually, the MB II's come in robusto, torpedo and churchhill. The MB III's come in churchhill, torpedo, robusto and double robusto.

How do they compare to the MB I's? I think they are much better than the II's.

Thanks for the review!

Right you are about the sizes, slipped my mind. I haven't tried the MB 1's so I couldn't say how they compare. I think the MB 3's will age well and have plenty of heft to go the distance. Time will tell.

The III's look really good. I'm glad they will be a more full-bodied smoke. Try to find a MB I. They are great!!
