The Montecristo Epic is a very promising cigar. It will begin shipments August 2nd of this year. I was lucky enough to receive a handful of them from the very generous Altadis rep at the shop I work at. The price point for the cigar with Michigan Tobacco Tax will be in the $12 to $15 range and will be packaged in metal gift boxes of 10 cigars, individually divided by cedar. The first 1000 boxes will be shipped inside a really nice looking cardboard box with the metal box inside of it. Distribution will be limited to premium Altadis accounts which carry 50 or more facings of their product, so availability will be scarce. Only 40 or so shops in Michigan are able to purchase them.

Overall I would rate this cigar a 92. The construction was fantastic. It never wandered more than a 1/4 inch off in burn, and it corrected itself very well. The earthiness and spices were very well balanced with subtle sweetness throughout and made for a superb smoke. I smoked it until it was too hot to hold, and it never picked up any tarry bitterness.

I am looking forward to picking up this line at the shop I work at. The cigar is great, as is the presentation box.

Thanks, very nice review. Haven't been impressed with NC Montecristo, but none that I've smoked have been bad. I'll keep an eye out for this one next month and look for a 5 pack to try.
