The Consul that I tried has a tight draw as well. I think that next time I try this cigar I may cut it a few days early and let it rest that way to try and open it up a bit.

Re: Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970 Consul

I got one in a sampler a few weeks ago. Smoked it and immediately ordered more...it thought it was a great cigar. I smoked one when I got the order and the draw was very tight and had a harsh taste. I let it burn out and a little while later, re-lit it and all the problems seemed to have corrected themselves. In the future, I am letting my cigars sit in the humidor for at least several weeks before I smoke them. Problem is that I am too impatient to wait!

Had one of these tonight... wasn't too tight, but disappointing none the less. The first inch was actually quite good, then it went downhill from there. Taste got bland and it just wasn't that good at all.

The last half started having burn problems and it seems I had to puff too often to keep it lit. Then at about 1/3 left it started tunnelling badly and I couldn't keep it lit, not that I wanted to by then. Conditions weren't too bad, low 40s with minimal wind.

Re: Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970 Consul

I've been trying this line the last couple weeks. Two weeks ago I picked up a beli and it was great: great flavor, no burn problems, and really enjoyable. Then I picked up a beli and a churchill. I smoked the churchill and it wouldn't draw or burn properly, but it had a great flavor (though hard to enjoy with the problems). Last night I smoked another beli. The first third was great flavor, but the last 2/3, the flavor kind of dulled. The burn was fine with a really white ash. I still can't decide if I want to buy a box of these or not.
