puros of st.james: newb review.

allright i will give this a try. i bought 3 boxes of these from mikes cigars for 20 bucks a box. bought them to hand out some at the tennessee cal game. they are made from manuel quesda out of the matsa factory.

wrapper: sumatra
tobacco: dom

good looking cigar no soft spots or blemishes on wrapper.

prelight draw, tastes of raisens.

first third of cigar had a taste of caramel and cream very nice with lots of smoke perfect draw and burn. ashed off after 2 inches, i was impressed.

second third, taste of caramel remained with a raisen like berry finish, still perfect draw and burn.

last third, taste turned completely to raisens and berries, perfect draw and burn i put it out with a inch and half left.

my thoughts: this cigar was impressive for the price. no harshness, good taste at a terrific value. the cigar is mild and is not really my cup of joe, but at that price i had to give them a try. this would be a perfect everyday cigar for a new cigar smoker or somebody who likes mild cigars. not many people know about these so i thought i would throw my 2 cents in. i think this cigar would go perfect with a light beer or a cup of coffee in the morning.

Thanks for the review. I've seen these in the Mike's catalog for a while now. i was afraid to pull the trigger on them, always had bad luck with MATASA products. Might have to give them a try.

tried another this morning with coffee same result. not the greatest cigar in the world, but i think it is one of the better ones out of the matasa factory for the price. i too have had problems with matasa products and truthfully for the price this is the only one i would buy again.

I just got a phone call from CIGARCYCLOPEDIA

The woman on the other end of the phone, Pat, informed me that I had won a box of these, churchill size.

Re: puros of st.james: newb review.

Well a box arrived Saturday morning, I must say that as of late I enjoy this vitola, 6.5" x 44.

As I opened the box and took one out of the cello I took a whiff and to my surprise there where traces milk chocolate. The next thing I noticed was the mottled look of the wrapper, as I examined it closer it almost looked like bits of mud.

The initial taste was not bad, once again with chocolate and herbal overtones. As I worked my way through this cigar I was turned off by the bite that was happening to the top of my tongue. Strength wise it ended up being on the mild to medium side of things.

The ash held tight but started to do this weird crooked thing.

Overall I would have to say it was all that bad and given the right circumstances and beverage I would smoke one again but I am curious about the mottled wrapper and what caused it.

So rather than clutter up the "airways" with another review of these gifted cigars I have attached it to this 2 year old review of smokeydog's.

Thanks CIGARCYCLOPEDIA, who would have thought. I was thinking that I would take them to a nephews wedding next month and offer them to the less experienced smokers.
