Thumbs up C.A.O. Black- Frontier Review

This stick was graciously gifted by Stogie Kanobie.

Beautiful stick- super smooth velvety wrapper. I'm not gonna lie- I was scared by the size of this Frontier- a Churchhill sized giant- 7x50. I'm used to PC's and Robustos as I'm a slow smoker.

I sat with my best friend and discussed personal issues over coffee with this thing as he smoked a Partagas Spanish Rosado San Agustin. It was hard to get lit because of it's size I suppose. But once I got it lit up I was impressed.

It was quite mild for the first two inches or so. Super creamy smoke- this thing was a smoke ring machine! Easiest smoke to blow rings with that I have experienced so far.

Once I hit the halfway mark or so the flavours strengthened into a more medium bodied smoke. Tangy and salty flavours arised. Still super creamy, cool smoke. It only spiced up as I got into the last few inches. I let it go with an inch left or so. I was surprised at how easy the draw was- I have had bad experiences with long cigars and draw problems. This was perfect. Burnt straight as an arrow until the last 10 minutes of the smoke.

If I can find some more of these I will be picking some up. Thanks so much Kanobie. It was a great stick over great conversation. My friend had a few puffs and he really enjoyed it as well! Thanks again! Highly recommended for anyone in the mood for a mild/medium stick. Generally I smoke heavier smokes but I really enjoyed this beauty.

Re: C.A.O. Black- Frontier

i got a sampler with some of these in it, that were in a smaller size. I'm going to have to try a larger sized one like that churchill. I liked the one i had, I've still got a couple in my humidor, so i'll have to smoke another one soon Thanks for the review!

I've loved every CAO Ive had.. the Gold is decent with morning coffee, as long as it has age. Every other CAO Ive smoked was just outstanding.

Re: C.A.O. Black- Frontier

I'm catching up. I'm glad you enjoyed this one and thanks for posting the review. I gave a few of these out when my brother and brother in law were up for 4th of july at my place. We sat around a fire and "sipped" these with believe it or not Vodka and cranberry juice. A great drink for a cigar that can stand up to it. The fact that it is big enough to "build" up to a good jump off point is what gets me and I think you summed that up nicely. I have some of the smaller ones as well (little longer and thinner than a robusto) and they were good when new and even better when revisited. This is definitely a good CAO cigar.

Very glas you enjoyed it..... (make up for the Willie Guillermo)

That was what really surprised me. I normally don't smoke cigars of this stature but it was very neat how the flavour came in different lengths. It wasn't like I'm used to where the flavour instantly changes from one draw to the next, but I could feel it building up- like you said.

Very interesting cigar. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to smoke one (and no thanks for giving me the desire throw more money at more cigars! )

I love CAO's. Never had the black so that's been added to the list. Thanks for the review.

Nice review. Inspired to get some and try out. I see there's a bunch of 'em on CBID for something like only $3 per cigar so will go after them for sure at that price and post review afterwards.

If you think that was good, try the Gothic, very smooth and bursting with a nice vanilla flavor. And the Man O' War, big boy size 6x60, very, very creamy and smooth, reminds me of those little Kraft carmels.

I agree with Trents review on these, although I found them to be a little more single-threaded than he did. I still enjoyed the cigar, and they are indeed producers of voluminous smoke clouds!

I picked up a box of the Frontiers, they came in a nice CAO "picasso-style" numbered box and were well presented. I am letting some of these age for a while to see if I can get more complexity out of the first third.
