Trinidad Toro Review
I obtained this in a five-pack from a certain cigar-bidding site for $21 - I figured, what the heck it's only $4.20 per. I have never had a Trinidad NC or done any research on this cigar, so I was unsure of what to expect. I have no idea about the age of this smoke (that's NC for you).
I tried this one with a cup of coffee at 8:00 a.m. soaking in the hot tub (leg work out from the previous day really hit me hard). Pre-light smell and flavor was fairly mild with some sweetness - nice - and seemed to pair perfectly with the aroma and flavor of my coffee with cream. The construction was good on this 6 x 50 stogie, it was well-packed and firm to the touch. The wrapper is a smooth Ecuador-Sumatra sun-grown. The head clipped off nicely and I toasted it up and took a steady draw to get it glowing. The draw was just right - a little firm but not a struggle whatsoever. From the beginning, I noticed the markedly creamy, full-bodied smoke, which drew easily out and was just great for a morning smoke. One of the best things about this stogie, was the volume of smoke from the draw. The other very good thing was the extremely well-balanced flavor in the mouth. Not a great differentiation from the tip of the tongue to the back of the throat - just real smooth, round, and full-bodied. Any power and full-bodiedness didn't overwhelm, though, because it was so balanced. The filler is a blend of aged Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Peruvian tobaccos. The flavor of this smoke was very pleasant. I noticed that it changed from woody-leathery in the beginning to herbacious-sweet during the mid-point, and it kept my interest with a change here and there at different points throughout. I thought I picked up a dried-fruit-raisiny flavor and like I noted, it had a nice, balanced flavor. This was a very pleasant surprise. My first Trinidad NC and I'll have high expectations of the others I purchased. I just hope they produce the same effect. My recommendation: Give it a try - 8 outta 10 on this one.

Re: Trinidad Toro
Nice review. Really like the Trinidad Robusto. They are a bit more pricey here but I try to keep a few in the humi. I've found that I seem to like the natural wrapper better than the maduro ... but they are both good.

Re: Trinidad Toro
I have some of these also and find them to be excellent. Your review captures the same things I found when I smopked one of these last. They are on the expensive side but, can be had for a decent price either in samplers or over at cbid. Thanks for the review.

Re: Trinidad Toro
I smoked one of these a week ago with friends at Starbucks for a birthday celebration. You nailed this one ...right through the goal posts!
I loved this one because of the volume of smoke etc. etc.. I will be picking up this one again. Not a cheap cigar but a good one nonetheless.![]()

Re: Trinidad Toro
I would have to agree with your review of the Trinidad. I love them! But they are a bit pricey. I try to get one every few months and if I have any, I tend to smoke them
I guess I will have to learn some restraint and put a few away for a rainy day! Thanks for the review!![]() |

Re: Trinidad Toro
I tried a second one of these on Sunday and it wasn't quite as smooth, but still very tasty. I noticed a bit more spiciness than I did on the first one. I gave one to a BOTL and now I'm down to 2 - I'll have to look for some replacements.
