The moderately dark brown Habano wrapper was almost vein-free and appeared to be high quality if a bit rustic or toothy. The cigar was firmly rolled and heavy in hand with no lumps, imperfections, or soft spots.
I used a punch, and the draw had a good firm resistance. I tasted plum in the prelight draw. This cigar had been resting for 4 months at 65% humidity when I pulled it out to enjoy on a breezy but warm Saturday afternoon.
I didn't get any of the prelight plum, or any other fruit for that matter. I did taste a strong woody oak and some light earthiness. The burn was even and I got good smoke output from the start.
The taste remained predominantly woody, but in this section I picked up some hints of fruit, possibly plum to go with some very dry nuttiness and spiciness. The flavor was pretty full, and the strength edged towards full as well. Continued good burn and smoke.
I got more earth in this portion of the cigar, as well as a noticeable uptick in peppery spice. It went out on me suddenly towards the end, but I was able to gently relight without marring the flavors terribly.
The cigar ended with full flavor and a good nicotine hit - not the strongest strength I've smoked, but certainly pretty stout.
This completes my series of reviews of the Toraņo Exodus trilogy. I noticed this one sitting in the humidor when it struck me that I'd written reviews of the Silver and 50 Years lately, so I decided then to finish this thing off.
The Gold was serviceable throughout. I'd smoke another, certainly, but I wouldn't purchase more ahead of the other two from the Exodus line. There are tobaccos from five different countries inside this stick, but none of the flavors really wowed me except for the plum flavor which really only appeared briefly in the middle of the cigar. The burn was excellent generally, but the cigar did go out once. Overall, I'd rate it a good but not great cigar.
