My 1st Rocky P. Sungrown Review

I had my first Rocky P. Sungrown 6x60 tonight and was supprised that I didn't care for it. I had my first ever RP last night and loved it. Last nights gar was a vintage 92 6x60 and can only say, WOW.

The Sungrown burned well and required to burn corrections that amounted to turning the slow burning side to the top and purging the gar.

I smoked this Sungrown for an hour and burned about 2 1/2 inches but from the time of lighting until putting it out with more than half left, it was bitter.

It had a fair amount of cool smoke and the burn was not bad but it just did not change in flavor.

I may have just got a lemon out of the bunch so I will try another one before giving up on them, but I was disappointed tonight.

I have always tended to go for Maduro's and this is the only Sungrown, anything, that I have ever smoked.

Do Sungrowns tend to be bitter?

I'll try another one and if it is the same, I'll have seven more that will be ready for trading stock.

I would give this around a 2 or 3 which is far below what I expected and I want to believe that this one was just a dud out of the batch.

Take care
Ken

Like you my friend i also had my first tonight and i agree. I found nothing in it to make me want to smoke another one anytime soon. I like everything else Rocky puts out but this one was dull beyond dull and i smoked the whole thing wanting something to happen. Thank god my book was good.

I have kept silent up until now, but have to agree. I've smoked 2 of the SG's, and found them to be quite gentle, bland and somewhat nondescript. I have a gut feeling that a year of age could change all that significantly.
Today I smoked an RP '90 and found it flavorful, delicious ans rewarding.

I have realised of late that I am really a maduro man. I find them much more ready to smoke after only a couple a weeks in the humi. Naturals don't satisfy me usually until they are at least a year old.

Hmmm, it may have been due to the size of it. I have not had one of the sixties but I have had the toro and a corona and a robusto. I think they are very good. However, they are not my favorites of the RP lines. Yet, the entire line is one of my alltime favorites; does this make any sense

I've had a few of the Torps, and thought they were pretty good, not the best SG, but good. Maybe just a bad one??

Hmmmm. I just had a thought, the fiver of pc's I picked up do have quite yellow cellophane, and the ones I have smoked were so spicy and full of flavor. Perhaps they do get much better with age?

I have had a number of "green" ones and found them full of flavor and very enjoyable. Could have gotten some bad ones. Or maybe the cigar is just not for you.

Re: My 1st Rocky P. Sungrown

I've smoked two of the SG Topedos recently. I did not let them rest in my humidor after I got them. I'd heard all the hype about them and decided to go for it. The first couple inches were a little bitter and unremarkable. Towards the middle and the end they were much more flavorful and really enjoyable. For the price, I think they're a little over rated. I also think that a few months in the humidor will make a huge difference!

One of my first cigars I tried after joining CS was a Petit Corona. Loved it! Nice and spicy, not too harsh. I bought a box of them and fired one up right out of the box and it was alot stronger than I remembered. After a month in my humidor I could taste a noticible difference. It was still spicy but smoother.

This is a good stick, but I don't think it's as good as their Vintage line.

Why didn't I see this earlier! I just placed a bid on the devil site on some sungrown's. Hopefully I'll like them or there might be some more out there for trade.

I want to like these cigars. They look and smell great and I'm hoping I just got a bad one or maybe all they need is some time in the humidor.

I have been so close to pulling the trigger on a box of A. Fuente Sungrowns after reading so many great things about them, but maybe I'll try to find a single first.

I'm sure you will, try smoking it with a nice rootbeer, Honestly it may seem like a wierd combo... but it is perhaps my favorite drink to go in conjunction with a RP sungrown.

I never smoked a PR sungrown (although I did order a single from CI), but I smoke all the time while drinking root beer, and creme soda, and even Dr Pepper. Those drinks have a smooth, fruity taste and compliments a good cigar. However, colas usually are not complimentary to a cigar IMHO..too strong a taste. I also enjoy alot of the flavored instant coffees. Of course, I like a Irish Creme or a chocolate liquor with my after dinner cigar.
