Rocky Patel Vintate 1999 Conn. Review

Well as promised...

The advantage of having a good B&M that you go to say once a week, is something like this...

I've been a big Rocky Patel fan since I was introduced to them by a fellow BOTL about 5 months ago.... I started with the Edge lite, worked my way into the Vintage series, before really becoming a fan of the Vintage 90 and Sungrown, usually picking up a few a week. Well a place I usually frequent called me and left a message that he had recieved the new Vintage 1999 and would put a few aside for me...

So I made the trip and picked up 3 churchills, I usually like robustos, but he only had the Churchills and the 60s, and saved both sizes for me but I decided to go with a churchill. Normally I would have let them sit in my humi for a week at least, but I had absolutely no self control when it came to this cigar, so for all you fellow rocky lovers heres the review.

Size: Churchill 7 x 52 is what I'm guessing
Wrapper: Conn Shade
Smoke time: 1 hr 20 Mins
Drink: Cream Soda

As expected this is a wonderful looking cigar... Just like all other Rockys it just begs to be smoked. So I took my new Xikar and snipped it, and took a lil pre-light draw... I could tell that this was going to be a good smoke. Lighting was not an issue, as the flame just lept from the matches and lit this beauty up. The first few draws, had the distinct taste of an Edge Lite, I really don't know how to describe it, but anybody who has smoked one will know what im talking about. That passed fast, after the first bit of white ash began to form, that edge flavor dissapeared and a creamy nutty flavor took over. Very mild, yet very tasty this is the way the cigar smoked for quite a while. Drawing and burning perfectly throughout the entire cigar, but this usually comes as an after thought with rocky's stuff. The final third however is an assault on the palette. The flavors contine to be nutty, and creamy, however hints of spice and wood sneak up on you. The tail end of the cigar got to be a tad harsh at times, you can tell it is a young cigar, and does need some time, but I think this is going to be an amazing brand with some age.

Not to sound noobish, but this isn't the same as the regular Connecticut line, right?

It is the RP Connecticut. I don't believe he has a connecticut line other than this one.

There is an RP Connecticut line in addition to the Vintage 1999 Connecticut line.

They are both good smokes for the mild cigar lover. But the Vintage 1999 is definitely a step up in flavor and smoothness.

Great review. I could feel the saliva in my mouth start to water....lol...I haven't tried any of the RP's yet but have heard so many good things about them that its time for me to partake. What would you recommend as a good 1st RP smoke. I typically like medium to full body.

I picked one up about two weeks ago and going to let it sit for about another month before I smoke it.

I would recommend a RP Vintage 90 or 92 torpedo, sit back and enjoy!
