My first Padron Anniversario Maduro Review

Well, after reading all about the many people on this site who love these cigars, I decided I needed to try them. I really enjoy the Padron 2000s, working my way through a box.

The cigar in question was a 1964 series, not sure on the exact dimensions, but it was about 7-7.5 x 48 or 50. I clipped it with my double-bladded cutter. The pre-light draw had a nice nutty, leathery taste to it. I grabbed my rum and coke and headed out to the porch to smoke and read my SI. It was raining and a little windy out, but I was nice and comfy under the porch roof with my jacket on. I fired the cigar up and was surprised at how strong it was. Probably the strongest cigar I have ever smoked. I had a few burn issues, probably due to the wind as the construction seemed solid and they corrected themselves. That single taste, bludgeoning me for the full hour and a half or so that I smoked it. The taste was a good one, which is why I finished it, but, tbh, I really expected more, especially given the price.

I enjoyed this cigar, but was dissapointed, really expecting a more complex flavor from this cigar. I have another PAM in my humi atm, larger ring guage and shorter, so I will try another. But I'm wondering if I might like this more in a natural wrapper, or after some age on it, or if I should just stick with the Davidoff Millenium Blend when I want a full-bodied premium smoke.

The '64 Annis pack a punch.
The '26 pack yet a bigger one.

I am sure the burn issue was the wind as you describe as I have had countless boxes of Annis, just about all of the vitolas and have yet to have had one that didn't draw perfect or burn perfect.

The taste is personal. Perhaps if you are comparing it to another smoke, like the Davidoff Millenium, it may not be fair as they are two totally different smokes, each with its own character.

Some prefer the natural over the maduro. I personally chose only maduro. I would give a couple more a try and see how your tastes change for it. IMHO, you may find comparable ones to it in other brands but I would argue it is hard to find a better one, but then again, it is all personal tastes.

For me personally, I have yet to light an Anni that I have not nubbed. Same for my dad and son so don't give up on them.

Great review. I felt the same way - disappointed given all the hype about this stick.

Great smoke, and one that I keep in my rotation, but isn't tremendously complex (as you stated). The '26's are much more complex, although more spendy as well.

Agreed!! Sorry it didn't live up to your expectations. Give the other one some time and give it another shot. If it doesn't move you again...it wasn't meant to be. - More for me!!!

Last time I was up at the B&M where I got this, they had some 26s. I'll have to stop up there soon and grab one or two. I initially held off becuase of the cost, tbh. $35 a stick is a bit more than I like to spend.

I think I'll do exactly that. I don't like giving up on anything after only trying it once, especially when I have a mixed experience. I'll probably also check with De La Concha and see if they have any additional sizes/shapes for me to try.

Ok, but if they don't have a particular size you're looking for, let me know. I have just about all the sizes in both 64's and 26's (mostly Maduro but some Nat.). I'd be happy to gift one to you....you know for the beads. Thanks again.

Re: My first Padron Anniversario Maduro

I'm in the group that really likes Padron, the 64 anniverasry series is my favorite. A couple sizes I like are the Diplimatico similiar to a churchill, and the Exclusivo similar to a robusto. I have a friend that smokes only Cuban cigars (poor guy) and when he visits he'll always smoke one of Padron 64's.

Re: My first Padron Anniversario Maduro

Thanks for the review. I have yet to meet a Padron that I do not like. I have not had the pleasure however, of trying a 64 or 26. Hard to find around these parts. Always sold out. I am told they are phenominal and have only heard good things.

Re: My first Padron Anniversario Maduro

Malik23, I am sorry the Padron Anni did not meet your expectations. But, I highly recommend you don't give up on it. I know there pricey, but there worth it. As far as the burn is concerned I would bet my life the wind had something to do with it, as I have never once had a burn problem with a Padron Anni. NEVER ! Damn, I love talking about the Padrons, I think I will go grab one right now. How about the 1926 Serie #2 Maduro. Yummy !

Re: My first Padron Anniversario Maduro

I am smoking a 1926 #6 right now and I could not be happier. Another great smoke is the Trinidad Maduro which I switch off against the Padron 1926s. I personally find the 64s a little less satisfying than the 1926s....Steve

I really enjoy the Maduros. Have a box of the 64 Torps. When I want something "complex" I try talking to my wife.

Re: My first Padron Anniversario Maduro

I would higly advise to smoke such a premium stick in ideal conditions. For me, when I smoke outside and it is rainy/chilly/windy, it is hard for me to get a great taste and focus. I only smoke cheap sticks in those conditions. Also, if you try these again, grab a water so you don't have anything conflicting with the taste. I usually don't try a drink with a cigar unless it is something that I have had before, and I know that it will pair well with it.
