Partagas #1 Review

I had a tough day at work yesterday. Afterwards, I mowed the yard, fixed dinner for the family, walked the dog, and went to the grocery. It was later than normal before I could sit down and relax.

I have been trying a lot of different smokes recently and had had sort of a bad run - some that were too tight to enjoy and one that was completely plugged; one that wouldn't stay lit and several that required too many touchups; a variety of odd flavors. I didn't want any of that trouble last night, so I pulled out something that I thought I could depend on - a Partagas (DR) #1 (43*6.75).

When I started smoking regularly this summer, the Partagas #1 was one of the first ones I had that I really liked, so I bought a box. I've had several of them and they've been consistent, so I thought I could trust it last night.

This one lit up quickly and easily. The burn was razor-sharp and even the whole way. It didn't mind waiting on me while I went and got another drink (Early Times with store-brand diet lemon-lime soda). It took right back up when I returned. The draw and volume of smoke were perfect. The taste was exactly what I expected it to be and consistent throughout.

My palate has changed a fair amount since I started smoking, and I am liking some stronger smokes now. The Partagas is probably on the mild side of medium. It has a unique flavor component that I can't identify or describe, but I haven't had any other cigars yet that have that tasted. I don't know what it is, but I like it.

The Partagas #1 was exactly what I needed last night - absolutely trouble-free; pleasant, consistent flavor; a good hour and 45 minutes of enjoyment out of a $3.60 cigar while I listened to the Cards/Mets game on the radio. A good finish to the day.
