2002 Padron Anniversary 1964 Maduro Monarca Review

2002 Padron Anniversary 1964 Maduro Monarca

6.5 X 46 corona gorda

Construction: A box-pressed beauty. Oily walnut brown wrapper and two minor veins. Solidly rolled with no soft spots.

Prelight: Light coffee, cocoa, cedar and tobacco flavor. Light sweet tobacco, earth and ceder aroma. Medium draw.

Burn: Lit evenly, occasionally meandering burn that always evened itself out. Very solid silver-gray ash tinged with charcoal gray.

Smoking Notes: Initial impression is a rich, thick, very smooth and creamy and lightly earthy smoke. The finish is quite sweet, nutty and lightly floral. My wife noted the aroma as very mild sweet-woody with hints chocolate and cedar. By 1/3, the cigar is a mix of light cedar, sweet nut, cocoa, coffee and earthy tobacco with floral notes and a bit of pepper spiciness on the finish. Aging has made this is very well-rounded with no sharp edges or abrupt flavor shifts, rather one flavor melds to another. By halfway the smoke is intensely cedary with the earthy, nutty, cocoa notes deepening. At 3/4, the smoke deepens further to heavy sweet earthiness, rich tobacco and sweet wood with light coffee and cocoa notes. Never became bitter or tarry as I smoked it to the nub.

Overall Impression: A solid A+ smoke, it simply doesn’t get much better than this. A stunning 1 hour smoke. PAM’s are a superb smoke w/o any age and with it they’re simply amazing.

Great review! I don't think that I have seen a Monarca at my B&M, will have to look for them next time.

Hardly anyone talks about the Monarcas, but these (and the Principes) may be the best tasting cigars in the 64 line.

They can be hard to find at B&Ms because they don't seem to sell as well as the other shapes -- at least in my neck of the woods.

Princepe Maduros are gone from here in a matter of days when they get here.

We never run out of them in Columbus...or the Exclusivos, Imperiales or No. 35s or...

We have a vendor who has been with the Padrons for many years and has the 26s and 64s in virtually perpetual supply...including the 40th anni sticks.
