Gurkha Expedition Torpedo Review

Tonight it rained. It Lightninged. It Thundered.

It also smoked.

Lit up a Gurkha Expedition Torpedo.

Pre light thoughts- Super smooth wrapper, velvety to the touch. Clipped with no problems. Draw was pretty loose but not buck-fifty-whore loose. Pretty impressed so far.

Lit it up with ease. Sat in my garage with my good friend Kyle with the garage door opened. We sat and smoked (he had a 5 Vegas A Torp), sipped on ice water and watched the rain pour down and the lightning light up the sky.

Flavour wise this stick consisted of pretty much just straight tobacco flavour- albeit good tobacco- with a bit of spice/harshness. I think this could benefit from 6-12 months of aging to smooth out the bit of harshness and possibly help it develop some new flavours. It was consistent- never changed flavours. I smoked it til it had about 2 and a half inches left. Good tobacco flavour- but not enough variation in my opinion.

Left a nice charry, long finish on the palate.

Nice smoke but should be more interesting. Thanks Kyle for giving me the opportunity to try one of these

As usual, nice write-up Trent.

Watched the same weather roll in this evening with a LVH #3 and a Crown & Coke. It's going to be 'cold' tomorrow, supposed to be all the way down into the 50s.

Re: Gurkha Expedition Torpedo

I had one a few nights ago, with a year of age on it. Smoothed out the harshness, but did NOT add to the flavor at all IMO. Remained mostly one-dimensional. Not really to my taste either.

Re: Gurkha Expedition Torpedo

very nice write up trent. sounds like a lot of the characteristics i've found to be typical of the gurkhas.

Re: Gurkha Expedition Torpedo

Had one last night, and I gotta say I had a completely different experience!

Toasted the foot with wooden matches. The aroma was a scent that I could only compare to burning butter cookies. LOL The flavor was very similar, a sort of burnt-buttery flavor. This was not at all unpleasant, in fact I found the aroma and flavor of this cigar to be very unique and enjoyable. After the first 1/3 the burnt butter cookie aroma stayed, but the flavor became alot more multi-dimensional. The draw would taste sweet, when I "exhaled" the smoke through my nostrils and mouth, the flavor was sort of tangy, and the buttery flavor that dominated the first part of the cigar became a very pleasant aftertaste.
I got this torpedo in a trade with Replicant Argent (thanks bro!), and it's been sitting in the humi for a few months now. I just won a 5 pack of robustos on c bid for $9, and if they are as good as the one I smoked last night, I think I've found a new favorite.

P.S. This was my first Gurkha ever.

Re: Gurkha Expedition Torpedo

Thanks for the reviews guy. Personally I have found that smokes that have straight tobacco flavor in profile need a few months rest for me to even say that it was ok. This is one of the reasons I am not a big fan of the regular 5 Vegas line.
