Ashton VSG Enchantment review

Okay VSG fans! I get it now! I just sparked up an Ashton VSG Enchantment that I've had sitting in my humidor for a month or so, and it's quite a wonderful smoke. I wasn't too keen on the VSG Belicoso No.1 -- the first VSG I'd ever had -- because though it seemed like there was a great cigar in there, it was just too bitter.

The VSG Enchantment is diminutive little smoke with a large ring gauge, wrapped into Figurado form, with a nice little nib on the foot that you light it from. I think a new term should be devised. If the end of the cigar is called a "foot", smokes that have this little nib on the end should have it referred to as a "little toe". Construction is great on this little dynamo, with a nice velvety wrapper, draping tightly over the cigar like it's just been in a wet t-shirt contest.

Sparking up the little toe, I pulled in some really wonderful citrus flavors through a very easy draw. This smoke is really tasty, with a nice bit of spiciness blending together with citrus-nutty flavors that are quite rewarding. This cigar reminds me a bit of the Monte Cristo Platinums or Zino Platinums... except that is has flavor!

I'm really pleased with this little wonder... it burned straight and true, and the ash was totally impressive: it hung on for the duration of the smoke, and looked exactly like the unburned cigar, right down to the little toe on the end.

Each draw gives you a little citrus tease, followed by a little nibble from a chili pepper, leaving you with a slightly musty/nutty taste in your mouth. A few minutes after a puff, your mouth tastes sweetly pleasant, with the slight tingling sensation that you get after eating spicy food. Good stuff, all of it!

These cigars are really quite wonderful; my only regret is that it's a relatively quick smoke. That's a good sign, though, I'm wishing there was a bit more of it to have! These will definitely be on my "buy" list, and I'm hoping that with a bit more aging, the VSG Belicoso No1 I have in the humidor will be just as wonderful.

Good review moki!.....I believe you nailed it with the nutty, citrus, & spiced nuances. This little gem screams complexity with that description which it aptly deserves!..............my fav. VSG hands down, some will whine about the price but C'mon people! LIVE life to the fullest & at least try a few....you owe it to yourself....

Nice review - when do you find time to smoke and review all of these cigars Moki?

If I could not smoke Habanos, the Ashton VSG would be my #1 for sure. Prefer it over any other domestic I've ever smoked, and I've smoked a few.

Try the Illusion, it's my favorite size (approximately a Cervantes-Lonsdale size) in the line.

I actually smoke no more than one cigar a day, often 1 cigar a week, so that's not a big deal.

As for writing the reviews, I find it makes me pay attention to the cigar, to what I like, what I don't like, etc. I'm also interested in having a record of what a cigar tasted like now, vs. a year down the road in my humidor, as well as to use my own reviews as a guide to decide what to buy when I visit the local smoke shop.

So I think writing the reviews benefits me as well, and I just plain enjoy doing it.

Oh, so most of these are reviews from the past?

I thought you were sitting down and smoking/reviewing 2-3 premiums a day

hehe -- well, the last few reviews (Padron Millennium, Untold Story, VGS Enchantment, Aņejo Shark, and Zino Platinum Chubby) were all done as they were smoked. The others were reviews I had written up prior to finding this forum.

thought people might find them useful, so I posted them. I'm all out of "saved up" reviews now, so it's all real time from here on...

Nice review...ASHTON VSG's are one of may favorite go to smokes...The only bad thing about the enchantment is that they are like Lays potato chips...you can't have just one!
