CAO CX2 Robusto Review

I neglected to bring a cigar to work with me today, so I popped up to De La Concha to grab a stick for an afternoon smoke. Perused their selection some and decided to try a CX2. I've had the MX2 before and really enjoyed it as well as several other of the CAOs.

Pre-light - nice draw, well constructed cigar. Slightly nutty flavor. The Robusto is 5x52 according to CI.

Fired it up in the shop and smoked a bit while checking out their pipe tobaccos, possibly looking for a new variation on my favorite hobby. The flavor on the CX2 was good with a leathery and very slightly spicy taste to it. By the middle of the cigar, it was starting to get bitter, so I slowed my smoke some to make sure I wasn't burning it too fast. The bitter taste continued through the end of the cigar, without being overwhelming. I get the feeling I would really enjoy this cigar with a few months or a year or so on it, once it's mellowed out some and some of the more interesting flavors have a chance to come through.

Overall I'd give it a passable rating, although at the price point, I think I'd go with a different stick for immediate smoking. I will probably grab a fiver of these and throw em in my cooler and forget em for a year and try them again.

I've tried the Cx2, myself, about a few months back, and wasn't all too impressed with it. It was a decent smoke, but nothing worth the price tag. I like the Mx2 much better.

The CX2 is probably my favorite CAO, but they are a little pricey.

The MX2 is good and is less expensive, but a different cigar all together.

I got the same impression (as the three first posters). The double Cameroon is not noticed and the cigar is simply too plain tasting to be interesting for the money.

This was by the way the cigar that made me realize that I have lost my taste for the Cameroon flavour! I have smoked lots of ho-hum cigars lately and many of them wore Cameroon wrappers. If someone could recommend a nicely balanced and full flavored Cameroon cigar, I might give it a last shot!

I guess my experience is different with the cx2, I could really taste the cameroon and really enjoyed it, I didn't like the price tag though.

Not a bad smoke but the price takes away from it, there are other cigars that I enjoy more for the price.

Re: CAO CX2 Robusto

I love the Mx2, but I am not a fan of the Cx2. The one that I did smoke was relatively fresh. I do have another that has been resting for quite a bit, which I will compare. I have never bought one, there is much better out there for the $$$.
