Thumbs up Sabor Cubano Gran Torpedo Review

After having read a great arcticle about cigars made in the US, I had to try the second cigar that was reviewed - Sabor Cubano Gran Torpedo

Here's a link to the arcticle -
http://www.cigarenvy.com/2006/07/03/...beyond-part-i/

I ordered a 5-pack from fullerspullers.com and let it sit for 2 weeks at 65%.

This is a very well constructed cigar. The size is 7" x 54 which is a large cigar, but it was very light in weight. I've had cigars that felt like lead weights in my hand, but this thing was light as a feather. I had my doubts at this point.

The cigar appears to be triple capped so I clipped right after the first cap from the point. The opening was fairly small, but the pre-draw seemed fine. The pre-draw flavor was something I've never tasted before in a cigar - Very pleasant. I don't have the palatte to describe flavors so I won't go there.

I used my trusty Zippo torch insert to toast the foot and shortly I had this thing cooking. The draw was good. The first inch and a half was pretty spicy with some harshness. At this point I tasted something very nasty and my lip was burning. I wiped my mouth and found that a gob of tar had oozed out from the cigar - I could see it coming out. At that point I snipped another 3/8" from the cap and forged ahead. I still had my doubts...

After two inches this smoke settled in and morphed into the cigar that I had hoped it would be. I like to exhale once in a while through my nose and it killed me at first, but there's a point at which you know the change has occurred - The taste was very smooth from this point to the nub. The flavor kind of reminded me of the Fuente-Don Carlos I had smoked last week. I would call this stick medium to full with lots of great full flavor and some spice. There was never any more tar that I noticed, I just think the opening was too small at first for all that smoke.

I will be buying more of these in the future and for 80bux for 20 they are a steal.

Smoke on....
