Thumbs up Newbie samples Padron 1964 Exclusivo Maduro Review

Hi everyone,

Yesterday was payday so I stopped by my local B&M and picked up my second cigar ever, a Padron 1964 Exclusivo Maduro.

APPEARANCE
It had a dark color but was not near as dark as I expected. The local guy there said it was the maduro but that it was a light maduro.

CONSTRUCTION
The construction looked nice but I admit, I did cherry pick the box for one that looked to have a nice cap on it without the edges sticking up After removing the wrapper, it looked to have a couple of places that looked like cracks beneath it but from what I could tell, they did not affect the experience.

FLAVOR
From a cold drawl, all I could sense was a tobacco flavor. During the first third, I can only describe it as what I would think the earthy flavor to be. During the second third, just for a brief moment, I detected what I can only describe as the flavor of a Hostess Ding Dong. This was quite amusing to me and caused me to sit alone by myself and laugh out loud for a few moments. As I begun the last third, I began to notice a more spicy version of the earthy taste that had been around the entire time. Shortly after, Mrs. Linder popped her head outside and announced she had brought home lunch. I let my friend die out with a couple of inches to go and headed inside.

VALUE
$11.85 plus tax. About 45% more than my first cigar but much more flavor.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE
I am sure the cigar was wasted on me but it was a better experience than my first and was never bitter in any way. The burn started off uneven. I attribute this to my desperate newbie attempt at lighting it with some short wooden matches. Throughout the smoke, I had to relight it twice. Once I started smoking faster, that no longer became an issue. Throughout the smoke, I constantly was repositioning the cigar to try and keep it burning evenly by rotating the slowest burning portion to the bottom.

I am looking forward to my first HERF and getting together with my fellow hillbillys in Fayetteville. For my next cigar, I think I would prefer something less earthy and more sweet / cocao / vanilla / something.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Nice review. I really like all things Padron, this might be a good one to come back to after you have tried a few different sticks.

Cheers

Thanks for the review.

I like Padron cigars. I'm no expert, but I get and enjoy and earthy quality from these. As for the burn, some times putting the slow part up will work. Heat rises, so that will sometimes get the upside burning quicker to catch up.

Thanks for the review, I personally love the padron 64N, but what don't you try a java by rocky patel-it is an infused cigar that has those characteristics that you were looking for.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Maybe the RP Java will be my next burn; I will see if I can find one here locally.

After heading home from a friends birthday party last night, Mrs. Linder and I stopped by the grocery store to pick up a 12-box of Ding Dongs. Half a box of Ding Dongs proved a great way to end the night LOL

Wow, a P1964 for your second cigar! That is a great way to start off this hobby. I smoked for over a year before I lit one of these bad boys up. Good review!

I love Padron Anni's, I smoked a 64 diplimatico Friday night. The Exclusivo and the Diplimatico are my two favorite sizes.

I agree with one of the post above, for your second cigar you really stepped it up.

I think your King Dong analogy is perfect it works for me. A real cigar snob might write something like: hints of dry cocoa followed by a creamy finish. Naah just call it a King Dong

I like your description better. Have fun exploring the world of Cigars. If your new to cigars and like the Padron Annis, you may want to give the Padron 000 series a chance, similar taste, and a lot less exspensive.
