Picked up one of these little beauties in a make your own sampler from famous-smoke after seeing it scored a 90 in C.A. mag. It was a beautiful late fall day here in Pa about 60 degrees and sunny. I had just but a pile of ribs on the grill, so I decided to light it up. It did not disappoint.
A little slight on ring gauge for a robusto at 46, the novella measures 4.5 inches long. The natural honduran wrapper was shiny, but not oily, it was veiny but the veins were not pronounced. The cap removed easily and I lit up. On first draw I noticed some leather and a creaminess that carried throughout the whole cigar. Less than a third in the leather gave way to a nuttiness that was tinged with cherry. I suppose since this is a cigar called Italia, amaretto would be the fitting term here. That amaretto flavor continued and intensified throughout the cigar with a hint of leather coming back near the end. The cigar had a perfect draw, never became bitter or overheated, and I nubbed it. Had a slightly crooked burn at one point but it did correct itself. The ash was solid and a beautiful light gray. All in all a great smoke, medium bodied, and left me with a not unpleasant nicotine buzz. I will be getting more of these.

Re: CAO Italia Novella
Nice review, I have had two cao italias before, one was awful and the other was really good, so I think I need to try them again.

Re: CAO Italia Novella
These cigars can get acrid on me randomly while smoking. Seems to be a consistency problem with this line.

Re: CAO Italia Novella
nice review. I've only had one Italia, but I remember it was a horrible burn experience. I had to re-light the SOB five times! Maybe I'll try another in the near future.

Re: CAO Italia Novella
I think that C.A.O. is an awesome company that makes some of the most under-appreciated cigars. I love the Italia, and I think it's one of their best!
