Flor De Oliva Super Giant Review

The name is fitting of this cigar.

Punched a small whole in the cap after moistening it (this was not enough to get a good draw) ended up removing the cap with a knife.

Prelight; Good draw.

11:30, Used a triple flame torch to toast the foot (can't imagine using matches or even a standard flame butane lighter for this job) once the foot had an ember, started smoking.

Took some work to get it going and the volume of smoke weak and thin, I expected much more for the amount of leaf rolled into this stick, a lot more.

The wrapper was very nice. Smooth, good aroma, sweet tobacco taste and smooth texture. About 2 1/2" into the smoke the wrapper began to come apart. As I smoked it continued to tear, until a good 4 1/2" had been burned and the tear had was 2" from the head (that’s when I gave up, it was 12:50)

The burn started off good and even, then began to wonder around. It would run on one side then the other but it never managed to be at the same place at the same time, some of this could be due to the wrapper coming apart.

It smoked cool, the flavor was smooth and good with a nice medium body and the aroma was wonderful. Based on the flavor, I'll try other Flor de Oliva cigars.

The ash, a very firm medium gray, was close to 4" when I broke it off in the ashtray.

I don't want to rate the Super Giant based on one cigar. These are my thoughts on the one I had today;

Appearance; 7 - Very even, smooth, nice sheen and color.

Construction; 8 - Very well made, firm and lacking any hard/soft spot, consistent from head to foot.

Flavor; 8 - Good, a bit one dimensional at first, but by the point I gave up on this one it had started to show a little depth.

Burn; 4 1/2 - I believe the wondering to be caused by the wrapper problem.

Value; 1 - The wrapper! This would have been an enjoyable smoke had it not been coming undone.

Overall; See Value.

Well...

One's been gifted, one's been smoked and two are spending some more time in a humidor before I try them again. Leaving four of these monsters looking for a new humidor.

p.p.s. The humidor this smoke came out of is at 70 with an RH of 68 =/-

That is indeed unfortunate, was the wrapper slightly cracked when you started?

It didn't appear to be.

The cigar didn't seem to be to wet, but it did swell some. Burned less then half of it in over an hour, doubt I was smoking to fast.

My friend smoked one of these- well a little bit of one. Couldn't get much smoke out of it- however his did not peel away. Gave up after 45 minutes or so.

Holy crap, that thing is HUGE, the mailman had to cover my porch with the box, since it wouldn't fit in the mailbox.
